Families Mohonk Pool

Mohonk Mountain House

Looking for a breath of fresh air this fall? Then take the family less than a two-hour drive from NYC to Mohonk Mountain House for a completely transporting experience. Breathe the mountain air, explore nature and have the perfect socially distanced family getaway. Mohonk’s historic Victorian castle is surrounded by 40,000 acres of pristine forest, allowing for endless opportunities to enjoy and explore nature in a safe, smart and fun way.

Families will feel right at home at Mohonk Mountain House, and its activities are the heart of it all. From row boating, canoeing, paddle boating and countless activities on the lake to rock climbing, archery, golf and hiking, Mohonk has all the fresh air adventures kids (and adults) need more than ever this fall.

Mohonk has even introduced a new educational program for kids that aims to ensure, as schools go virtual, children are still learning every day while enjoying time together as a family.

The Landmark Victorian House to Call Home

The landmark property is old-school Catskills, and its extensive grounds feature gorgeous gardens, a nine-hole golf course, basketball and tennis courts, and stables for horseback riding and horse-drawn carriage rides. Lake Mohonk is perfect for boating, fishing and swimming.

Mohonk also has a wide array of lodging to suit all different types of families and their comfort zones. The resort has 265 guestrooms and suites, including private cottages and Grove Lodge. Book the entire Grove Lodge, featuring six of the resort’s newest guest rooms and a sprawling great room. The rooms have fireplaces, custom-designed furniture from local artisans, soaking tubs and more, making it the perfect retreat for families and groups to celebrate and experience the magic of the Hudson Valley.

Mohonk’s health and safety policies, including wellness checks, non-contact temperature checks, hand sanitizing stations, deep cleaning and rigorous sanitizing, mask requirements and air filtration, put everyone’s health and well-being first and foremost. Plus, there are ample opportunities to social distance in nature on the vast property.

Choose Your Adventure

Relax and enjoy your surroundings in a rocking chair overlooking the lake, or choose your own adventure on and around the lake. Try rowing a boat, diving into the pure water of Lake Mohonk, taking in the incredible views on the hiking trails, or stopping to smell the flowers as you stroll through the Victorian Show Gardens. A stay at Mohonk includes endless entertainment with all these activities and experiences for everyone in the family.

Hiking this stunning property is a must-do. The 85 miles of hiking trails are chock full of natural delights and scenic lookouts to stop and take it all in. Don’t miss the essential hikes: Sky Top Tower, Eagle Cliff and Copes Lookout. Your personal favorite is sure to be the Sky Top Tower; on a clear day, you can see six states from the observation deck. Explore Copes Lookout on horseback, which adds to the thrill of it all.

During the pandemic, Mohonk has rolled out a new educational program that includes STEM activities and nature scavenger hunts for schoolchildren. There are also fun and festive nighttime activities like glow golf and campfires with s’mores.

Dining

Mohonk has a wide variety of dining options with its four establishments: the Main Dining Room, The Granary, The Carriage Lounge and Spirits on the Sunset Porch. At present, table service is at reduced capacity, but there are many al fresco options. Mohonk is currently offering lunch and dinner “marketplace” style, so you can grab and go signature chef-plated items and work with the culinary team, if desired, to tailor meals to your liking. Then, enjoy your repast al fresco on one of the three covered porches overlooking Lake Mohonk, or at your cottage. The kiddie favorite will be the old-fashioned soda fountain in the gift shop, which offers lattes, milkshakes, egg creams, malts and more. There are also delectable dining options off property in town, if you even want to leave the resort.

Mohonk Mountain House provides a dynamic backdrop for a memorable family vacation in the mountains. It will be just the breath of fresh air your family needs right now, and everyone will want to go back for more.
