It’s happening; King Charles’ Coronation is here. As the longest-waiting Monarch in history, (70+ years), London is pulling out all stops to commemorate the occasion. There will be the official events, including the procession to Westminster Abbey, where the actual Coronation ceremony will take place. From there though, it’s a party, no matter who you are, in London. So these are the best coronation celebrations in London to put on the list.
The Ritz
The best of the best coronation celebrations in London, outside of celebrating with KC himself, is at the Coronation Ball at The Ritz. This black tie affair, no surprise, is totally sold out. The evening starts with Champagne and canapés, progresses through a sit down formal dinner, then dancing til midnight. You could do nothing to The Ritz and it’s already decorated to celebrate, but they’ve totally decked out the hotel for the festivities. Even a stop here during the weekend is worth a pop in for tea to get in a festive mood.
The Lanesborough
By virtue of its location, the Lanesborough already is where one of the best coronation celebrations in London will be. Right across from Buckingham Palace, it’s on the Coronation Procession route from the Palace over to Westminster Abbey. The hotel itself is a London Grand Dame, and is as old school elegant as it gets.
The Lanesborough coronation celebrations include a Five course Coronation Menu from May 2-12, of the best British classic dishes at the Lanesborough Grill. There’s also a Coronation Brunch on May 7th and cocktails through the mid month. They even have a Kings Coronation Cocktail at the Library Bar that’s King Charles’ favorite night cap. In case you’re wondering, that’s Fino sherry, citrus cordial, a few drops of peaty single malt whiskey. It’s garnished with gold leaf, though that’s more for the theatrics of the presentation at the bar, not necessarily at the Palace.
The Stafford
One of the best coronation celebrations in London will be at an American bar. On Saturday, May 6th, The Stafford will host an old fashioned English Garden Party at their bar, ironically named American Bar. That’s the only aspect that will be American though. The event will have music, British games, and a hog roast to mark the occasion.
Coronation Concert
Over 10,000 people will be at one of the official best Coronation events in London at Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7th. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andre Bocelli and other acts will perform. It will also be broadcasted by the BBC, for those who didn’t draw a ticket. Or want to watch it from the comfort of home.
House + Street Parties
You have to know someone in London, because most of the chic Londoners will have their own Coronation celebrations. We know of one private house party that’s going to have the DJ from Chiltern perform for 250 of his closest friends. It’s a good thing though that Londoners are a friendly bunch. Expect lots of street and house parties this weekend. These private parties with your nearest and dearest will be one of the best coronation celebrations in London.
The Big Help Out – Monday, May 8th
King Charles’ Coronation is a national holiday in London, so don’t expect to hear from your UK based friends on Monday, May 8th. While most of them will be tending to the over-celebrations from the weekend, some will partake in The Big Help Out. This is also one of the official Royal events on the calendar, and maybe the best of the Coronation celebrations in London. King Charles has spent his lifetime on charitable efforts.
