LVMH Invests in the Orient Express

Abigail Hanley, Staff Writer

Just when you thought that LVMH would slow down, they’re tripling their bets in the hospitality space (or is it quadrupling at this point?). Just like their recent acquisitions, they’re betting on a sure thing. This time, it’s the iconic Orient Express brand.

Background

Orient Express is an iconic luxury travel brand that began with the famous train in 1883. The brand has been known for luxury travel ever since its debut, becoming even more popular and sought-after when Agatha Christie released her work of detective fiction, Murder on the Orient Express. And since Accor took over the brand in 2022, Orient Express has only thrived.

The Investment

Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy has partnered with Accor to invest in Orient Express. Together, the companies have invested €13.7 in the luxury brand. This means big plans for Orient Express, both in introducing train travel to a larger audience and reaching new locations. There will also be a greater network of hotels as part of LVMH’s investment in Orient Express.

If there’s anyone who can boost the development of Orient Express, it’s LVMH. They already own Belmond, which was once part of Orient Express. It’s like the family got back together with the LVMH investment. Since the acquisition of Belmond, LVMH has built expertise in the realm of luxury travel. Between Belmond and Cheval Blanc, they’re poised to bring Orient Express into its next stage.

Ships & Train

The idea behind LVMH and Accor’s partnership is to accelerate the development of Orient Express. Together, the two companies plan to bring Orient Express to new heights, giving you the chance to travel in different ways. They aren’t wasting any time either. A brand new luxury train is scheduled to open up in 2025. Not only that, but the brand will also open two new sailing ships, one of which is already under construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in France, scheduled to open in the spring of 2026.

Hotels

LVMH and Accor plan to open a brand new collection of Orient Express hotels in 2025. The new Orient Express hotels will honor the brand’s past by celebrating history, culture, and travel in the most luxurious way. The interior of each hotel will be reminiscent of the original Orient Express train, while also paying tribute to the culture of the countries they are located in. The hotels’ architecture will be inspired by Art Deco and the 1920s. They have announced that the first Orient Express hotels will be located in Venice and Rome, with more to follow.

FAQs

Q: What changes will LVMH make to Orient Express now that they have invested?

A: The main changes being made are faster development. The brand’s main image and mission will remain the same, but there will be more methods of travel.

Q: Will Orient Express allow children on the new ships and train?

A: Yes, families may bring their children along for the ride on the Orient Express’ new ships and train.

Q: How long will my Orient Express journey take?

A: Although the ships’ routes are still to be announced, there are countless Orient Express train routes through Europe. The most popular is from London to Venice and takes two days.
