In this case, it may be caviar at the Tiffany restaurant, or at least lunch. Or perhaps afternoon tea, at the famed jeweler. The Tiffany Blue Box Café is where eye candy dreams are made of, where you’re dining in a jewel box itself of Tiffany blue. The NYC Tiffany restaurant reopens soon, but in the meantime the Costa Mesa locale is calling your name.
The Blue Box café might be one of the most famous eateries in New York thanks to Audrey Hepburn. Everyone wants to live like the queen of the city for a day. Unfortunately, the 2023 opening date for the NYC café is still TBD. So, while you’re waiting, you can head to the Petrossian restaurant at the Tiffany in Costa Mesa. Or, you can try out one of these NYC local spots that will make you feel like you’re at Tiffany restaurant, until they reopen soon.
The Petrossian
The art-deco inspired restaurant, The Petrossian, is the Tiffany restaurant in Costa Mesa. If you know Petrossian, you know that dining there is like an ode to caviar. After all, there’s not much that goes better with fine jewelry than caviar. The iconic caviar company has designed an experience suited to those who are likely shoppers. The walls of the Petrossian Tiffany restaurant are the signature baby blue, although decorated with amazonite stone. It’s a grown up Breakfast at Tiffany’s — or for when breakfast turns into an evening meal. The menu has also been designed with Tiffany in mind. Decadent blinis and soft scrambled egg set the stage for any of 11 variations of caviar. Caviar tastings are also one of their most popular experiences.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s in NYC
Prior to 2020 when it shut down for renovations, The Blue Box Café had a 30 day reservation list at all times. Though re-opening day has yet to be announced, the waiting list is sure to fill up quick. So, whether open or not, it may be wise to have a list of alternative places to get the experience you’re after. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is about the menu as much as it is about the Tiffany silverware and baby blue linens that make messy eaters fearful. And while it may not be possible to top the cache of a breakfast at the Tiffany restaurant, there are spots with tiered displays of waffles and caviar.
Ladurée
Ladurée could be considered the Tiffany of macarons. The french pastry shop at the Mercer Hotel also has a macaron-filled tea with the same resonance as the The Blue Box Café. Tiers of finger sandwiches, macaroons, and another dessert of choice make up the delectable teas experience. However, while the food and lattés are delectable, the draw is how cute and fancy the restaurant itself is.
The Whitby Bar & Restaurant
The Whitby serves a boozy, but not casual afternoon tea that’s perfect for when you want to dress up and indulge in a Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired day. Here, you get unlimited tea or coffee with an array of diverse menu items that come, of course, in a traditional tiered manner. Warm scones, empanadas, and beef sliders make up some of the more diverse savory menu options. A mousse cake, and pineapple meringue pie are options for dessert. And as the restaurant is on 5th, you can make your way to Tiffany for a sneaky shopping trip afterwards.
