This month, at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, the Angels (aka supermodels) will once again debut a number of fantasy-inspired looks on the runway. In fact, the extravaganza, televised in December, is one of the world’s most watched fashion shows. Understandably so. Some of the show-stoppers include a pair of wings painstakingly made with 100,000 individual crystals and the snowflake decked out with Swarovski crystals. We talked to two key wing women, angels Erin Heatherton and Behati Prinsloo.
Galavante: Where would you love to travel to next?
Erin Heatherton: I’ve been all over and taken many vacations. But my goal right now is to go to South Carolina and Georgia and visit all the islands there. I really appreciate America and seeing the old towns kind of trapped in time. I like touring Twilight Zone-y old farms or syrup factories. That’s really interesting to me because I’ve traveled so much and I really want to get to know my own country. I heard Kiawah Island is supposed to be amazing. Also, I really love being in New York City – going to Brooklyn and checking out parts of New York. I love McCarren park and watching kickball – it’s so cool there. It’s just like a funny hipster movie – great people watching.
Behati Prinsloo: I really want to go to India. I’ve never been so maybe in the near future I’ll be visiting. I’d like to spend a month there and travel all around. And I would love to go to the paint festival, Holi, the Festival of Colors. They all throw colorful powder – it’s amazing. I heard about it in National Geographic.
Galavante: What is your favorite workout?
Erin Heatherton: I’m doing Ballet Beautiful. You can get it on iTunes. I’m obsessed with it. Just like modeling and being a Victoria’s Secret Angel, it teaches you things about your posture and about lengthening your body in a way that you can apply to your real life and feel like an elegant lady. I did a lot of sports and didn’t naturally carry myself with a grace and elegance that you would learn if you did ballet as a kid. Now, I do Ballet Beautiful all the time. I work with Mary Helen Bowers who started it and trained Natalie Portman for Black Swan. She was in the New York Ballet and all of her trainers are in the New York Ballet, so she’s the real deal. Ballet is such a beautiful art. And to get to learn their secrets of how to stand and suck in and all these crazy awesome things, is really cool.
Behati Prinsloo: At the moment, the Citi Bikes have been awesome. I love them. It’s been a really fun way to get around in the summer. And I do Pilates and yoga all the time too. My travel schedule is so hectic, but when I’m in New York, I try and do it two to three times a week. I do the machine called the reformer. I don’t do the mat Pilates, just the reformer.
Galavante: In terms of food, when you want to go off the rails and “cheat” what might you eat?
Erin Heatherton: My philosophy is that there should be no cheating. I think that when you diet or think you’re on a diet, you’re kind of telling yourself that you’re not good enough. By doing that, you can create a not-good-enough body for yourself. The thing that has worked for me is accepting and loving my body and listening to what my body wants. I’ve tried a lot of things but now I really listen to what I am hungry for. Am I hungry for fruit? Hungry for steak? Listen to yourself because your body knows what it needs. And then you don’t feel like you’re cheating, because you’re not. You are perfect the way you are.
Galavante: That’s beautiful. Is there something that you love to eat when your body’s saying, I want something sweet?
Erin Heatherton: I do. Recently, my chiropractor told me about eating coconut oil. I’ll have just a tablespoon. It’s antibacterial, antifungal, all this great stuff. I love the taste of it. Some people might not. I have it first thing in the morning and it really satiates me. My vice is chocolate, but I haven’t had chocolate in months. I don’t even want chocolate anymore. I just want some coconut oil. It makes your stomach feel good. It’s amazing.
Behati Prinsloo: I hate that word, cheat day. But I do love fast food. I love In-N-Out Burger. It’s my favorite. I get the Animal-Style, fries, and I get the Double-Double, and the milkshake. The shake’s the best.
Galavante: And no guilt?
Behati Prinsloo: No guilt. Why do you need guilt? Nothing. No guilt. You have moderation. It’s not like I’m going to do it everyday. But now and then. Guilt-free. Thank you.
