TNT’s Mob City debuts Wednesday, Dec. 4., staring New Yorker Ed Burns. As he had his shoes shined at “Mickey’s Haberdashery” pop-up in the Chelsea Market, Galavante chatted with him for an exclusive New York Minute interview. The shop (open now through Dec. 4) features classic and vintage items from brands such as The Victory Optical Collection and Stetson, inspired by the 1940s. We sat down with Ed Burns and got his inside scoop on favorite clothing shops, restaurants and NYC activities.
Galavante: What are your favorite restaurants in New York City?
Ed Burns: My favorite places in the city: there’s a new place in TriBeCa, where we live, which I love, called American Cut. It’s a new sort-of traditional steak house, but it’s got a new take on some of the standards. Locanda Verde, also in the neighborhood. That’s sort of our go-to. You can tell I basically never get out of TriBeCa. There’s a little place called Smith & Mills, which has one of the best burgers in the city.
Galavante: What activities do you enjoy in New York that you can’t do elsewhere?
Ed Burns: You know what I’ve recently started doing? I mean, you could do it elsewhere, but not like this – striped bass fishing, in the Hudson River. You can catch some monster striped bass.
Galavante: How often do you do that?
Ed Burns: I probably go two times in spring, two times in fall. There’s nothing like catching a striped bass at the foot of the Statue of Liberty to make you rethink what New York has to offer.
Galavante: Where are your favorite places to shop in New York?
Ed Burns: I like Rag & Bone. I’d say that’s a spot I dig. That and J. Crew Liquor store, again, because it’s around the block from my apartment.
Galavante: How about entertainment? What’s the last great show you saw?
Ed Burns: Pearl Jam concert at the Barclays Center. That was our last night out.
