Although Dior started as a women’s fashion house in 1946, today, it makes more than must-have clothes – much, much more. Over the past 80 years, the luxury brand has expanded its line of products to include scents, jewelry, bags, cosmetics, and even home goods. Plates, bowls, vases, baskets, table and bed linens, photo frames, cutlery – Dior does it all. Even candles.
There are two types of Dior candles: votive candles and tapered candles. The Dior Votive Candles are all scented and come in highly decorative glass or porcelain candle holders. While they look and smell lovely, they can’t match the elegance of the brand’s Tapered Candles. (One could even say that the votives can’t hold a candle to the tapereds, but that might be confusing.)
The Dior Tapered Candles, likely because they are reminiscent of altar candles, have a more dignified and graceful appearance. Also, the fact that they are 12 inches tall and one inch wide helps make them look more delicate and chic. (We’re not in the business of fat shaming, however, and votive candles, while smaller and wider, are beautiful in their own way, of course).
The Dior Tapered Candles
There are only two versions of the Dior Tapered Candles: those with the Lily of the Valley motif and those with the Cabinet de la Mer theme.
The Lily of the Valley motif, featuring ethereal sprigs of the flower in a gentle green, is a tribute to Christian Dior himself. The founder of the fashion house had a well-known fondness for the dainty spring bloom, so much so that it inspired some of his fashion creations.
The Cabinet de la Mer theme is part of a new ocean-focused collection. The candles feature colorful seahorses, corals, and shells to transport owners deep into an underwater world.
In case that helps you make a decision as to which version you want to purchase, note that the Lily of the Valley candles are made in Portugal, while the Cabinet de la Mer ones are made in France.
Both renditions come in sets of three and are priced at $110. That’s around $37 per candle so maybe keep them for a special occasion (or just display them but never burn). Another option is to use them as a host or hostess gift for someone you really, really like. With a present like that, they will like you very much in return. And if you throw in one of Dior’s beautiful candle holders, we guarantee they’ll invite you back.
