I’ve always gone against the grain. I was the weird kid who liked mint chocolate chip even when it would have been much easier to like vanilla. I gave up the plush job on the proverbial Wall Street to start a travel company. So clearly, it’s only natural that for summer, I would head to where it was winter.
A Destination I Was Saving
I am still on my way to experiencing all 195 countries in the world. With only 50 or so left though, there’s a necessary element of strategy to work through the logistics. One of the most important in laying out the last countries is what country will be my 195th. It would make sense to have a destination as a stand-alone, but yet one that is relatively accessible. After all, I would want friends and family to join in my milestone achievement. So, for a while there, Fiji stood out as a place that would make sense to save for country #195.
However, there was still something that gave me pause on designating Fiji as country #195. Fiji was the one place that I told one of my dearest friends, Ubah, that I would never travel to with her. In case you haven’t ever looked up Fiji, it’s one of the most romantic places in the world. So, no offense to Ubah, but I would prefer to go with a significant other. It’s become Ubah’s and my inside joke that it would be kind of a personal low to share a romantic dinner with each other in Fiji. Though I know that there could be worse situations than traveling with a gorgeous supermodel BFF to one of the most beautiful places in the world.
When Opportunity Knocks
So yes, I had pretty defined ideas of when Fiji would fit into my travels. But this year has been unique for me. It’s been an interesting summer as I’ve had to prioritize both work and personal commitments in lieu of a month in Europe. But I am getting ready to travel again, where Europe will happen in September. And the stars are lining up for Fiji before then. Sometimes you just know when the time is right, and I think I’m ready to go for it.
So that’s what I wish for you this summer. I hope you just go for it. Go for it all.
All the Best,
