White Truffle Safari

They had us at white truffle. And safari. Quite honestly, we don’t know what to do with ourselves, thinking of all the possibilities of the ultimate boondoggle in Piedmont.

What are Piedmont White Truffles?

Let’s be real: a fungus that grows deep in the dirt, doesn’t scream luxurious. But anyone who knows anything about haute cuisine knows that white truffles are the bougiest thing to ever come out of the ground. You can just ask the person who purchased one for $330,000 back in 2007. The prized white truffle is renowned for its intense, earthy aroma and unique notes of garlic and cheese. That’s why every year, from September to December, the Piedmont region of Italy comes alive for white truffle hunting season. Amateurs and seasoned “tartufaios” alike set out with their truffle-hunting dogs to scour Piedmont’s rolling hills and valleys in search of some of those little white treasures.

The Safari

TerraEvents Lifestyle’s White Truffle Safari is an exclusive and highly curated experience that takes you off the beaten path — literally. On this five-day journey, guests are taken out on a private, untouched truffle reserve. Forget the usual fields and popular hunting haunts that quickly become overrun by hunters each year. Guided by expert tartufaios and their trusty hunting dogs, you’ll embark on rugged trails in off-road vehicles, while learning all things truffles — from their history and varieties to preparation and pairing techniques.

Naturally, the adventure also continues outside of the hunt. It’s a true immersion into the picturesque Langhe region. Your trip begins with a stay in a serene organic farmhouse and ends with an overnight in a 17th-century castle. It’s the best of both worlds. Between trekking for truffles and living like royalty, you’ll also explore the region in vintage cars, receive a private tour and tasting at Canelli’s underground wine cellars, and tuck into local ingredients at Michelin-starred restaurants across the region.
