Stanley Tucci has three loves—acting, directing, and cooking. From a young age, Tucci found a way to weave the art forms into a successful career. In the late 1990s, Tucci wrote, directed, and starred in Big Night—a film following two brothers in their pursuit to keep their Italian restaurant from tanking. From the outset of his life’s work, Tucci found a way to make Italian cooking and film meet halfway.
Again, in Julie & Julia, Tucci finds himself in a role that revolves around the culinary world. Maybe Tucci was inspired by the film because three years later, he wrote a cookbook of his own, The Tucci Cookbook: Family, Friends, and Food. Three cookbooks and many prestigious movie awards are arguably a good setup, more than most accomplish in a lifetime. Tucci, however, took to fusing cooking and film once more. Everyone’s favorite COVID binge was born—Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. So, it only makes sense that his next project is literal cookware.
How It Started
Tucci says it’s an idea he’s had in the past, but when GreenPan asked to collaborate, the fleeting thought turned into a real business venture. First to break into the market with ceramic nonstick cookware free of PFAS, GreenPan already had some street cred. Co-founder and designer Jan Hoekstra collaborated with Tucci to use cutting-edge technology for visually beautiful but functional pieces. The Italian brand fits Tucci’s Italian-rooted cooking style; the rest is history. Hoekstra explains that he drew architectural inspiration from watching Tucci cook in his home kitchen. He looked at his furniture and cookware and saw a minimalist, modern commonality.
The Tucci by GreenPan Cookware Collection
Tucci came out with the original collection in 2023 and added another in September. Every pan is created with size and weight in mind. They work on all stovetops; you can put them in the oven and withstand up to 600 degrees of heat. The cookware also features stay-cool handles and is dishwasher-safe. How? They’re made with 70-percent-recycled aluminum, three-ply stainless steel, and a lasered plasma surface. Every piece has an engraved TUCCI handle, whether in gold or a smoky black. The original line offered an elegant Carrera White and Venetian Teal for the ceramic outside. The new offerings include Calabrian Fig, Roma Gold, Amalfi Sunset, and Tuscan Olive, all inspired by vintage cars.
The first lineup includes saucepans, frying pans, strainers, and Dutch ovens. What’s new is a 4.5-quart Stanley Pan, the 9×13 Lasagna Pan, and stainless steel options for those of you who like a chrome finish. If cooking is not your expertise, starting with the versatile Essential Stanley Pan or Lasagna Pan is the way to go (nothing too committal). However, for those of you with custom-made aprons and an ambitious list of recipes to try, you’ve graduated to cookware set status. Not to mention, Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
