Tuscany Epitomized: Como Castello del Nero

Lara Stella, Staff Writer

Como Castello Del Nero

You like food. You especially like wine, with bonus points when it’s in Italy. Add all of the above to a castle, and now you’re talking. Como has arrived in Italy and it’s coming in hot as in the place to be this summer.

Summer is so close now, with algorithms reminding us to shore-up vacation plans. If warm memories of time spent enjoying the simple pleasures are teasing with where to go this year, Como Castello del Nero should definitely be on the short-list.

Como properties take inspiration from their locations with an unflinching dedication to cleansing the soul. Whether in Bali or Italy, a Como experience is filtered through a neutral palette, leaning on shades of white, to cleanse and inspire the body and mind. It’s time well-spent, restoring harmony and balance to the chaos of everyday living.

A Twelfth Century Palazzo in the Heart of Tuscany

With no shortage of frescoed palazzo and impossibly unchanging views, Como Castello del Nero is a rarity among the stately gems of Tuscany. Set high in the hills between Florence and Sienna, the quintessential combination of olive groves, vineyards and cypress unfurl across the 740-acre estate. Luxury is not only in the location, but the richly refurbished castle. It offers nothing short of a nourishing balance of self-care, restfulness and, of course, food attended to with time-honored tradition of the region, and the Como touch.

Rooms With a View of the Tuscan Countryside

The Palazzo comprises just 50 rooms, each with signature Como touches, including Egyptian linens and heady rosemary wafting through windows for the most restful sleep. Each room opens to picture-perfect views, either of courtyards and gardens or the sweeping hills. The experience is as analogue as it gets, with the soundscape as pure as the centuries-old landscape.

For larger groups, the five-bedroom Villa San Luigi is an opportunity to indulge in absolute privacy with in-villa dining, treatments and daily yoga or Pilates. Access to the Shambhala spa, Technogym, personal training, Padel and tennis courts are available, as well as the resorts three dining options.

Dining Indulgence

The hotel’s signature restaurant, La Torre, has held a Michelin star for 12 years. Chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro takes inspiration from local ingredients, refining Tuscan tradition through the lens of global trends and innovation. The result is an unforgettable dining experience, shaped by a refined perspective dedicated to simply divine pleasures.

The Pavilion is the hotel’s relaxed alfresco diner. Everyday Italian favorites are set against the backdrop of impossibly perfect views. Fluffy crust pizza and melt-in-the-mouth pastas are prepared with estate-produced olive oil for a finish that lingers lightly until the next meal.

Situated in the former kitchen of the Castillo, La Taverna harks back to a time of great feasts with a convivial atmosphere. Serving cocktails, as well as local aperitifs and digestives, it counter-balances the restaurants. The focus is on mixology and gastronomy, reduced to fine ingredients prepared simply.

Cultural Experiences for Everlasting Memories

Como offers a highly curated menu of exclusive, immersive experiences. Cooking classes are led by locals, not only experts in Tuscan cuisine but the region’s particular characteristics. For culture lovers? Private balcony access to the Palio Di Sienna or the annual Andrea Bocelli concert in late July. The approach to experiences provides guests with an opportunity to get to know the region more intimately. Whether gasping up high in a hot air balloon or getting among it via e-bike, bespoke experiences offer an intimacy with Tuscan culture and the countryside.

Spa and Wellness, Where Indulgence Matches Maintenance

Como del Castello takes rejuvenation seriously, with a menu designed for a whole body and mind reset. The spa itself accommodates couples and families, with treatments for guests of all ages and needs. Meanwhile, the state-of-the-art Technogym and personal trainers are on-hand to maintain routines (or to establish new ones). There’s Padel and tennis for both regular players and beginners, while Pilates and daily yoga keep the small muscles and the mind supple, relaxed and ready for the next meal.
