What does media entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk know about food? Well, technically, he doesn’t need to know anything with Chef Josh Capon as his business partner. Enter Flyfish Club: the latest private dinner club in NYC to land on the Lower East Side.
Two years ago, Flyfish Club made headlines as the world’s first NFT restaurant. Finally, after much anticipation, the private club is set to open this summer in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Flyfish just unveiled a sneak peak of what we can expect from the three-story, 11,000-square-foot venue. Here’s your inside look into Flyfish, Manhattan’s newest private dinner club.
Overview
Hospitality group VCR, known for establishments like FiDi’s Ito and Flatiron’s Little Maven, created Flyfish to redefine private dining in NYC. The group chose an unconventional approach to attract diners, enabling membership solely through cryptocurrency. It’s a surprisingly successful strategy: the club amassed $14 million before its location was even announced.
Location
In recent years, the Lower East Side has transformed itself into a hot spot for trendy, vibrant restaurants. Flyfish will surely make its mark as one of the few, if not only, private dinner clubs in the neighborhood. Architect Roger Ferris designed the building, which will feature three floors decorated by Garrett Singer Design.
The no-frills interior is fitting for a restaurant funded by crypto. The club’s sleek and modern design is accented with golden red hues. And we wouldn’t be surprised if the dim lighting of each room is intentional, maintaining the privacy of its private diners.
Dining
The club will have a restaurant, lounge, 20-seat private dining room, and a 14-seat omakase counter. The omakase counter is open only to “omakase members,” so yes, if you want a seat at that counter your membership will cost more.
Menu specifics still remain a mystery, so going in on a membership at Flyfish means betting that Capon will deliver in the kitchen.
Membership
When Flyfish first launched, the only path to membership was through blockchain. Now, in addition to blockchain, the club has conceded to the ways of traditional dinner clubs and is offering standard membership through a flat dollar rate. For those under 30, you can choose a junior membership with member dues at $2,300. Otherwise, you can choose between the standard as an individual, or standard plus to include your spouse at the respective annual rates of $3,500 and $4,000.
If you’re an NFT aficionado, you can own your own membership through blockchain. However, the club is no longer releasing anymore blockchain memberships, so interested parties will need to turn to the secondary market.
