We know, Mykonos is the place to party. There’s never been a table in Nammos that hasn’t been danced on. We’d like to introduce you, however, to a whole different side of Mykonos. Away from the riffraff, on a remote-ish part of this isle, is Kalesma, a new hotel in Mykonos. It looks like a stunner, with all suites and private villas that have direct views of the Aegean.
A Grown-up Mykonos
We say remote-ish part of Mykonos, as this new hotel in Mykonos sits atop the bay of Ornos, which is 15 minutes or so from the center of town. The feel though in this area is low-key, charming and local. You feel like you’re in a different part of Greece, where the streets are quiet and there are more cafes than pumping beach clubs. Kalesma takes this atmosphere and runs with it in the vibe of the hotel. As you arrive, you’ll smell bread that’s freshly baked and settle into a serene setting that overlooks the Aegean Sea. This is not to say this place is boring though. Each evening at sunset, the DJ mixes it up and the restaurant, Pere Ubu, serves up local Cycladic cuisine. We only hope that the saganaki flames, but if not, we’ll give it a pass for its more authentic cuisine.
The Rooms
The hotel is all-suite, where rooms are on the larger side by Mykonos standards, with generous 900+ square foot terraces. The villas on property are optimal for larger groups, with two to three bedrooms and clocking in around 2,600 square feet. The palate is that calming stone, wood and white throughout, with bougainvillea overflowing from the archways. They landscaped something like 20,000+ plants on this gem of a property, so we can only imagine the scents. Kalesma is on our radar, and the early reviews from the experts give it a big thumbs up.
