It used to be that the only time you left Manhattan was to go to the airport or the Hamptons. But now, there are so many reasons to road trip to the countryside. The Pendry Natirar just got added to the list.
Overview
Nestled in the heart of New Jersey’s Somerset County, Pendry Natirar offers the charm of a historic farm estate with a modern twist. Just an hour from Manhattan, this sophisticated, equine-centric retreat (and former private club) boasts a restored 1900s mansion with stately Great Room, a sprawling farm, a spa, and an acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant—all set within a bucolic 500-acre park. If it’s good enough to be owned by the King of Morocco (yep, this happened in 1983), we think it’s good enough for a road trip weekend away.
Accommodations
The 66 rooms at Pendry Natirar (of which 21 are suites) blend contemporary design with classic Tudor elements. Think earthy tones, Old-World wood furnishings, marble bathrooms, and artful details (like richly-hued still-life paintings) – it’s a historic estate, after all. The spacious one-bedroom suites with floor-to-ceiling windows can accommodate the whole family, with ample room to relax. And the rooms at the back offer sweeping views of lush meadows and forests.
Amenities
The 19,000-square-foot spa is glorious. It has Himalayan salt rooms, hydrotherapy facilities and whole menu of treatments. We’re talking signature Pendry full-body massages, sound therapy treatments, 6 different facials, hair removal treatments, and all kinds of add-ons. There’s even a mud therapy experience. During the warmer months, there’s an outdoor pool and hot tub, as well as a 24/7 fitness center, and numerous hiking trails to round out the available activities. And for family fun, the property offers kids’ club Paintbox by Pendry with interactive outdoor adventures, like archery and scavenger hunts.
Food & Drink
The award-winning fine dining restaurant, Ninety Acres, features seasonal farm-to-table dishes (there’s actually a 12-acre farm on-site) with ingredients harvested from the on-site bounty. This dinner restaurant also boasts a cooking school, which invites guests of all ages to partake in private or group classes.
The more casual Ladd’s Tavern serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering hearty British tavern fare (think sophisticated versions of Clam Chowder and Mac & Cheese). You can take advantage of it as a sit-down meal with cocktails by the fire, or al fresco, on the sun-dappled patio. Whatever your choice, if an egg is proffered, accept. After all, the property raises its own chickens who are pampered nearly as well as the guests. You’ve never seen such golden yolks.
