The Soho House for grown-ups has arrived in New York City. And we’re not being facetious either; The Ned is literally the older version of the Soho House portfolio. In lieu of 20-somethings, the Ned is more about the 30-somethings and up, with an emphasis on and up. But it’s not lacking one ounce of cool.
Meet The Ned
Founded by Soho House CEO Nick Jones, The Ned is a members-only, one-stop shop for lodging, socializing, working, and relaxing. While the original London location opened in 2017, The Ned’s NoMad addition is the first Soho House American outpost.
Think of it this way: If Soho House is the TikTok-famous little sibling, The Ned is her pulled-together older sister. She’s corporate, chic, and well traveled. She outgrew espresso martinis a while ago. Where Soho House famously uses trend cycles and social media influence to cater to a younger, creative demographic, The Ned homes in on timelessness and non-stuffy elegance.
It All Starts in the Space
Housed in the historic Johnston Building built in 1903, The Ned took over the space after the beloved NoMad Hotel closed in 2021. Keeping in line with the space’s general design philosophy, the team chose to honor the architectural makeup of the iconic structure while revamping the interior. The result? All the opulent clubbiness of The NoMad but with more light, more greenery, more vintage influence, and generally more fun. The space also keeps its artsy NYC charm, sporting The Ned NoMad art collection. Over 150 works by a variety of local artists are displayed throughout the club.
Guests and members alike can stay in one of The Ned’s 167 rooms, ranging in size from “Cozy” to “Studio Apartment.” As for the other spaces, The Ned tends to focus on members-only exclusivity.
Members-Only Access
When we said exclusive, we meant it. As a member, you have access to a variety of spaces to work, eat, play and stay. First up: Ned’s Club. Here you’ll find food, drinks, a stage for live music, as well as The Library, a work space by day, bar by night. From there, head up to the second-floor Magic Room, a 1930’s inspired cabaret club. Not your scene? Sneak out to the rooftop bar and terrace restaurant for direct views of the Empire State Building. Here, members can also arrange for private dining experiences in the Cupola, another iconic feature of the Johnston Building.
As for cuisine, The Ned pays homage to NoMad’s classic dishes. There’s a wide range of offerings, from a raw and tartare section to plant-based dishes to Cecconi’s iconic Northern Italian menu and large wine selection. While Cecconi’s is open to the public, reservations are only for members.
The newest addition to the space, Little Ned, comes later this summer. Little Ned will serve an upscale menu and offer 1920’s style booth seating, with design inspired by The Ned London. While the first floor is open to guests, the mezzanine level remains exclusive to members. Ned Club members also have access to special events, digital content, and nightly live music.
