The iconic Roman restaurant Roscioli is officially coming to New York City, and not as a pop-up either. The Italian staple, renowned for its charcuterie, cheese, and pastas, lands in New York as a collaboration with restaurant Niche Niche. In fact, Roscioli NYC will be setting up right in the Niche Niche space. These are the details of the restaurant which brings the best part of Rome to New York.
A Collaboration with Niche Niche
Niche Niche closed its doors at MacDougal Street after a good run. It was a unique restaurant whose premise was the nightly dinner party. While you and your friends would have your own table, the whole restaurant would partake in a shared set menu. Food would be brought out in coordinated courses for all tables, so it felt more like a dinner party.
Roscioli is the renowned Roman institution that currently has three locations in Italy. It serves up pasta, pizzas, and other classic Roman fare, paired with approachable local wines. This collaboration with Niche Niche will be Roscioli’s first-ever location outside Italy.
A History of Roscioli
Roscioli opened in the 1970s, and immediately became the local spot for loyal patrons. Today, it is a must-visit restaurant for travelers to Rome. The restaurant’s pasta is special indeed, with a classic cacio e pepe that should be on every table. Roscioli also offers some of the best cured meats and cheeses. Its wine selection follows the high standard of the food, where local wines do not break the bank (unless you want to).
A Meeting of Minds
In 2004, Roscioli opened a second location, Salumeria con Cucina, in Modena; and in 2017 came Roscioli Rimessa in (again) Rome. Rimessa is well-known for its wine-tasting sessions and cooking classes.
The foundational values of Roscioli match those of Ariel Arce’s Niche Niche. Both focus on ingredients of the highest quality, top wine, and friendly neighborhood atmospheres. The first floor of the new Roscioli NYC will have a deli, restaurant, and wine bar, in addition to takeout food.
The new restaurant promises to have the spirit of Niche Niche. If the success and energy of Niche Niche are an indication of what’s to come, Roscioli NYC will be a fast neighborhood favorite.
