Imagine a place so sublime that it’s called Sublime. This is where time is frozen, in an area called Comporta in Portugal, an hour south of Lisbon. This beachside oasis has been likened to the Hamptons in the 1970s, but more magical. Comporta is an off-the-grid gem of umbrella pine and cork trees, wild sand dunes, rice fields, and easily 40 miles of pristine, white-sand beaches. It’s also where some of the biggest A-List celebrities have been vacationing for years, totally off the radar. So we’re giving you the preview; just please don’t tell anyone!
Overview
Part of the reason celebrities vacation at Sublime Comporta is the isolation. When staying there you get to choose between the hotel which has 22 rooms and the Villas. The cabana style Villas have up to five bedrooms, a fireplace, multiple terraces and outdoor areas. Each also has a private pool. Another cabana option is the Bio-Pool Suites. These are inspired by the fishing port of Carrasqueira. You can see that inspiration in the straw thatched roofs and the water that goes right up to each private terrace. The Bio-Pool Suites are also provide for those loving nature sounds, as that during frog mating season, the surrounding area sings with nature.
The Dining
Sublime Comporta has three restaurant options. The main restaurant is Sem Porta where guests are served with food taken directly from Comporta. Chefs work with fisherman and use locally stored rice. Some menu highlights include the Grilled Turbot with Coriander Rice and the Rice Babá desert which consists of rice brioche, Moscatel wine and sweet rice ice cream. The Food Circle is the restaurant in the middle of Sublime Comporta’s organic garden. It features farm to table Portuguese food with a focus on sustainability. The last restaurant, Botanico Bar, is the most casual. It features signature cocktails like the Penny Smoke and quick bites like the Pink Prawn Aguachile.
The Spa
The Wellness activities at Sublime Comporta are expansive. Weekly group events include Tibetan Singing Bowl Meditation, Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga with Meditation, Aquagym, and more. These all change and vary on a weekly basis, while all taking place overlooking nature. Also popular are the wellness retreats and programs which are customizable to each guest.
