Spas for Mom

We write about what we love at Galavante. All our editorial is carefully curated by the Galavante team. When you purchase through a link on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.

This Mother’s Day, your mom doesn’t want breakfast in bed or a bouquet of flowers. She doesn’t even want jewelry. What she wants is time to herself to relax and get pampered instead of running around and taking care of everyone else. And what better way to give your mom what she wants than to book her in one of the most luxurious spas in the world? The following five renowned spas will allow your mom to finally unwind and be spoiled – she deserves it, and you know it.

Palazzo Fiuggi

Less than 90 minutes outside of Rome, Italy, is the town of Fiuggi. Renowned for centuries for the healing and rejuvenating powers of its water, the town is home to Palazzo Fiuggi, one of the world’s top destination spas. Don’t believe us? Oprah goes to Palazzo Fiuggi for her wellness needs – this place is the real deal.

While, yes, your mom will be drinking a few gallons of the local miraculous water during her time at Palazzo Fiuggi, that’s far from the only cure on offer. Palazzo Fiuggi is a wellness medical spa and, as such, she will enjoy both medical and spa therapies.

Her stay at the palace will start with a full assessment from the team of medical experts on site. Thanks to their state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and their attentiveness, she’ll be checked from head to toe before being given a health plan curated to her specific needs. And because food is medicine, there’s also a three-Michelin-star chef who will offer her a personalized meal plan. Her wellbeing will be the center of everyone’s attention for once, and she should definitely revel in it.

Inside the grand and impeccably decorated palace, she’ll not only go through body scans, ultrasounds, and electrocardiograms, she’ll also take part in fitness classes, meditation sessions, guided hikes, sound therapy, massages, and way, way more treatments that she can possibly wrap her head around. Think facials, acupuncture sessions, body contouring, and even cryotherapy. Palazzo Fiuggi Medical Spa and Treatment Menu is 28 pages long. Now, that’s a Mother’s Day present she won’t soon forget.

ZEM

Located at the foot of the Sierra de Bernia mountain range, just 45 minutes away from Alicante in always-sunny Southern Spain, ZEM combines opulent architecture with wellness and gastronomy. The vacation holy trinity.

Much like all modern luxury spas, ZEM’s mission is to help your mom enjoy a better and longer life. To do just that, there’s a team of medical professionals, ultra-modern equipment, and wellness experts ready to regale her with the best, most advanced care and treatments out there.

No matter which one of the seven programs on offer your mom will opt for, a stay at ZEM starts with a visit to the on-site clinic. There, she’ll undergo a very thorough examination of her physical, mental, and emotional health so that the staff can devise a personalized plan that caters to her unique needs.

But ZEM isn’t all about poking and prodding – it’s also about relaxation and pleasure. The spa facility at ZEM is immense, with over 40 treatment rooms where she can receive traditional treatments, like massages and facials, as well as lesser-expected, modern ones. Among them is oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber, an anxiety-alleviating waterbed experience, and a session in a futuristic pain-relieving massage chair. Of course, there’s also a cutting-edge fitness area, pools, a beauty salon, and meditation classes to round things up.

Your mom also needs to eat tasty, healthy food to have a good time, and the on-site restaurant will deliver. Salvia serves Mediterranean food made from seasonal and organic ingredients grown at the ZEM farm next door. Now, that’s fresh.

SHA Wellness Clinic

There are two SHA locations that you can book for your mom this Mother’s Day: one in Southern Spain and one on an island off the coast of Mexico. If you want to plan ahead, however, know that there’s another SHA Wellness Clinic opening in Abu Dhabi in 2027.

But no matter the location, all SHA Wellness Clinics offer the same level of luxury, the same approach to health and wellbeing, and they all have the same mission: giving people all the care, treatments, and tools they need for a longer, better life.

What distinguishes SHA from other high-end spas is its integrative method – its secret sauce, if you will. The method consists of nine pillars, including healthy nutrition, preventive medicine, emotional health, advanced aesthetics, and cognitive stimulation, among others. After an initial consultation with the health experts on site, every guest gets its own curated version of the pillars, and it’s more about self-improvement than it is about relaxation. For example, your mom may be a good candidate for sleep medicine, stress management sessions, kickboxing classes, and hair treatments. Or, she might be a good fit for some pressotherapy, aqua biking, watsu, and anti-tobacco medicine. No matter what she needs, she’ll get it at SHA. And she’ll come back from it as good as new.

Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley is a deluxe, five-star spa hotel located on the French Riviera, in the pine tree-covered hills around the chic seaside town of St. Tropez.

While the setting is gorgeous and inspires relaxation, don’t book your mom at Lily of the Valley if all she wants is to get massages and spend hours poolside. The purpose of the establishment is to whip people into shape to help them age better. This means that although massages are very much on the menu, the focus is mostly on weight loss, indoor and outdoor sports, and beauty-enhancing treatments.

Lily of the Valley has only 53 rooms, ranging from simple, two-person accommodations to a full-blown, six-person villa with a private pool and a garden. There are several food and drink options on site, all of which cater to the ethos of the hotel — so don’t expect your mom to treat herself to croissants or quiche lorraine. Just saying. The hotel’s seasonal beach club allows guests to relax and take dips in the Mediterranean Sea in between hikes, mountain biking sessions, and even canoe adventures.

Como Shambhala

There are 16 COMO Shambhala locations across four continents, so no matter where your mom lives, there should be one near her. If not, get her a vacation and a stay at the spa. You owe her.

COMO Shambhala locations (also known as sanctuaries) zero in on helping you achieve your own wellness goals via three practices: movement, non-invasive treatments, and healthy eating. Movement includes yoga, pilates, personal training, and physiotherapy, among a variety of classes. And treatments range from massages and facials to acupuncture, cupping, and oxygen therapy. The healthy eating tier focuses on whole foods (often raw) and natural flavors; meals are low in sugar, salt, and are free of artificial additives. All in all, while your mom won’t be indulging, she will be pampered and have plenty of relaxation time.
