Maybe you just closed a big deal. Or you just got that well-deserved promotion. Or maybe, you just want a darned good cocktail. Whatever the reason, there are nights where you want to go big, because you’re not going home. When the occasion calls for it, these are the places, and the cocktails, that are worth the celebration.
We get that “stealth-wealth” is in. But we’re always going to love some good, old-fashioned hedonism. The fun kind, of course– like this list of the most expensive drinks in the world. Because who doesn’t want to think about a cocktail served up with a side of 18-karat gold? From Tokyo to Ireland, here are the most luxurious drinks that money can buy.
The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo
In one of Tokyo’s tallest hotels, you can order the Diamonds are Forever Martini, ringing in at just around $19,000. It’s a relatively simple cocktail, made with Absolut Elyx vodka and lime juice. Oh– and a one-carat diamond at the bottom of the glass. Naturally.
Included in the price tag is a performance from a live band, who entertains with “Diamonds are Forever” while you sip away.
XS Nightclub, Las Vegas
You’ve heard of a million-dollar bite, but what about the thousand-dollar sip? At XS Nightclub in Las Vegas, each sip of this drink is worth about 1k. It’s called the Ono cocktail, and you can order it for $10,000. Made with the finest ingredients– $60,000 cognac and rare 1981 champagne– the Ono is not so much just a cocktail, but more of an experience. It comes with a pair of gold cufflinks, an 18-karat gold necklace, and a whole assembly/performance done by around 20 servers. One waitress presents a bottle of champagne, while another presents a tray of custom glassware to choose from. The drink is prepared table-side, added to the glasses of choice, and topped with the champagne for you to keep.
The Merchant Hotel, Belfast
If we’ve found anything in our research, it’s that drinks become expensive by way of two things. Whopping jewels, and extremely high-quality ingredients. At the Merchant Hotel, they rely on the latter. The Merchant’s Original Mai Tai goes for about $1,270 and is inspired by the actual OG drink, created in 1944 at Trader’s Vic in Oakland. This version pays homage by upping the ingredients’ quality as much as possible. We’re talking 17-year-old rum, French Garnier Orgeat, Holland DeKuyper Curacao, rock candy syrup, and fresh lime.
