The Plaster House is a remarkable center in Tanzania, founded by Sarah from Australia in 2008, initially with six beds. Today, in 2016, they have over 50 beds and are expanding. This facility provides pre and post-operative care for children undergoing life-changing surgeries. It serves as a clean and safe haven for kids as they recover.
In this episode, Christine Drinan, the Founder of Galavante, will dedicate an entire day to visit the Plaster House. During her visit, she will engage with the children by organizing an art project, thanks to generous donations from the Christopher Foundation for the Arts. Additionally, Galavante has contributed items such as socks and balls, along with other essential supplies. These contributions are vital as they not only provide comfort to the children but also offer a source of joy and distraction during their recovery.
The Plaster House, which showcases profiles of children in need and collects donations for their surgeries online, relies on more than just monetary contributions. They require essential medical supplies like bandages, gauze, and antiseptics for post-operative care, as well as educational materials to keep the children engaged in learning. Personal hygiene items like toothbrushes, soap, and shampoo are vital, and clothing donations, especially for the children, are highly appreciated. Non-perishable food items and baby formula ensure proper nutrition, while comfort items like stuffed animals or blankets provide emotional support. Of course, financial contributions are always welcome to help cover operational costs and ensure the sustainability of the Plaster House.
Before donating, it’s good to check with the Plaster House about their current needs. Your support in various forms will make a significant difference in the lives of these children and their families.
