Welcome Back, Belize

Slowly but surely, the US passport is getting more love around the world. Belize is officially open as of October 1, and Americans with negative COVID tests within 72 hours prior to arrival are welcome. And while you have to stay in a government-approved hotel (don’t worry — the best ones are on the list), you otherwise are able to explore the best Belize has to offer.

Thinking of taking a trip in the Mayan heartland, or looking to scuba dive the Barrier Reef? Foreign tourists can now enter by following some simple and tech-savvy steps. First, within 72 hours of your flight, you need to download the Belize Health App and fill in the required information. Once complete, you will receive a QR code, which will permit you to travel within Belize’s “Safe Corridors.” You also must stay at an approved Gold Standard hotel and show a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arriving, which will fast-track your arrival process. (You may also be subject to a second round of testing.) Once everything checks out, you will receive a wristband to wear for the duration of your stay. Transportation on and around the island is limited, so take care when moving around. You are only allowed to take approved Gold Standard transportation to your hotel and participate in approved Gold Standard tours. To sum it all up, you just must be on the app and keep to the safe locations designated by the country. But once you do, you’re all set to enjoy your time.
