Where to Stay in Jerusalem

Overview

Sometimes you have to travel somewhere, to just experience something yourself.  The David Citadel is a prime example.  We’ll be honest with you, our first call was to the Mamilla Hotel in Jerusalem, which is known amongst the cooler circles as the place to stay.  The Mamilla was packed to the gills though, and it was by luck that someone casually mentioned the sister hotel, David Citadel, had openings right across the street.

So we breezed into the hotel fresh off the scene of Tel Aviv, with no expectations.  Check-in was European-style friendly, and we were shown up to our room on the 7thfloor, as well as granted access to the Executive Lounge. The hotel recently went through a gut renovation, where the grand hallways were tastefully decorated in a contemporary style that gives off a serene and airy vibe.

The Snapshot:

Large, super comfortable rooms, serene vibe, good service and terrace views.

The Rooms

From the moment we walked into the room, there was something familiar about the hotel.  Appointments were luxurious from the moment you walk in, with the herringbone floors and top end finishes. There was a cool mural of a city in the entry way and a large separate dressing room area with modern dark paneled doors. The bathroom was a stunner, designed in  a light white and grey marble that was contemporary and clean. The room itself had a huge sitting area partitioned off by the dual televisions and cabinet. This separated the bedroom and living room on the open floorplan, which made the room seem larger than it was. The best part though was still to come, where the balcony overlooked the Old City of Jerusalem Walls.

It’s Part of The Set

As for that familiarity, it all came together when we realized the David Citadel was part of The Set.  If you don’t know The Set, you need this hotel portfolio in your life.  The hotels include Café Royal in London and the Conservatorium in Amsterdam.  We were actually sad to leave the next day for Mamila across the street.  We could have easily stayed our entire time in Jerusalem at the David Citadel.

What to know:

This is hands down, where to stay in Jerusalem for families. This playroom is reason enough, to bring your kids to Jerusalem. Also, the David Citadel has some of the biggest, if not the biggest rooms in the city of Jerusalem. We would venture to say that for price per square foot, they have the largest rooms in the country.  The rooms are exquisitely appointed. Top end linens, lots of closet space and marbled bathrooms, albeit with smaller showers are in each room.

The David Citadel is also where to stay in Jerusalem for design buffs, who will appreciate the attention to all the details. The Set brought in their Italian designer, who came in especially to oversee the renovation of the hotel.  The team chose every single finish, furniture, artwork and throw pillow with painstaking detail.

The breakfast buffet is generous. Not though, it’s a more Kosher style of cooking, versus the sister property Mamilla which has more a European menu.
