This week we Galavante to Puglia, the Insider’s Destination in Italy. It is surprising that any place in Italy has not been discovered by the mainstream, but this is it. Puglia is the Italian countryside that you dream of, with its miles of olive groves, picturesque towns frozen in time and the scent of lemons everywhere in the air. And while Italy has arguably some of the best food in the world, Puglia is the secret gastronomic capital. Romans have been known to do the five hour drive for an overnight trip just to have dinner in Puglia. And while summer is optimal for travel to Puglia, this is an all-year destination where the weather is mild, scenery is stunning and five-star hotels are still reasonably priced.
Our Puglia issue is the incredible contribution of Sharmila Murat, our Galavante Contributing Founder. Sharmila has an extensive international network, and because of her, we had the privilege to meet with Aldo Melpignano, International Hotelier. Aldo’s and his family recently opened the Borgo Egnazia, a stunning resort in Puglia which skillfully combines a five-star experience with family warmth. Aldo was generous enough to also provide us with his insider tips which have inspired me to book my weekend trip to Puglia.
