This defines The Deal: 40% Off the Hotel You Need in Your Life. You’re ready to take the show international, and sit your butt on a beach in the Caribbean for a few days. We have a hotel for that. Silversands in Grenada is running a unicorn 40% off special from now until August 15th.
The deal only applies if you book direct with the hotel. This offer includes breakfast and that infinity pool. With the couple thousand dollars you save, we can throw all the $100 credits, room upgrades and free airport transport at you, and it still won’t add up. So, don’t book through Galavante, Amex or your travel agent who has no clue. This is one time where it makes sense to do the travel yourself.
The Overview
This trip is not really DIY, because once you make the call to Silver Sands, they take care of the rest. They even fill out the COVID health form for your approval, and update you thoroughly on the COVID tests required before, on arrival and after. Once you get through the COVID world formalities though, the rest is fun, all the way.
Silversands is a St. Barths level hotel, located on a 2.5 mile long white sand beach front. We’ll have the full review on Galavante at the end of the month, but the time is now to see for yourself, if all the pretty Instagram pictures are worth the hype. The shortcut answer: Yes.
The Flights
Flights are direct from NYC and Miami, and within 4.5 hours, you’ll find yourself on Vacation, with a capital V. Jet Blue flies direct to Grenada from NYC, and on Saturdays and Tuesdays, there’s even a Mint service. Mint is the Jet Blue version of business class, for those who are not regular Jet Blue travelers.
Due to timing though and the quarantine period (see below), the optimal trip is currently from Thursday to Monday. Sundays are a must at Aquarium, so if you’re social, plan your dates accordingly. On Mondays, most of the restaurants are closed outside of the resort. The beauty of Grenada is not only Silversands, but to get out and experience local life.
COVID Protocols
Current quarantine rules require a PCR Covid test within 72 hours of arrival. Upon arrival, you go through the rigor moral of another PCR test, then a 48 hour quarantine until you’re in the clear. We’re making the assumption you’re smart enough to be vaccinated, as otherwise unvaccinated guests are required to quarantine at the resort. Also, our advice is you spend the money on VIP arrival, which is around $130/per person. You’ll step off the tarmac and drive in a golf cart to a separate welcome area. There you’ll do your PCR test on arrival and be picked up in your Tesla by the resort in less than 10 minutes flat.
Either way, don’t even think about breaking quarantine, because 1) we are in a pandemic, and any outbreak in Grenada would be a huge risk to the local population and 2) it’s a $3,000 fine when you’re caught. So please, don’t be that tourist.
