If you’re at an Italian hotel and there isn’t some tie to the rich cultural history that gives Italy its romanticism, you’re doing yourself an injustice. The Forte family has been in the hotelier business for four generations. Their specialties come in two forms—hyper-personalized service and historical charm. The Forte family has done it all, from restaurants to restorative spas and retreats. The newest addition is no different. Rocco Forte House in Milan was built last August from the bones of a 19th-century Milanese palazzo. The eleven-apartment-style property is ultra-private and equally luxurious — so let’s discuss it.
Location
The Rocco Forte House is in central Milan, located on Via Manzoni at the corner of Via della Spiga, two of Milan’s most fashion-forward streets. While Milan has a more modern metropolis feel in contrast to cities like Florence, plenty of historical elements are interwoven into the city’s fabric. For instance, Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, the Gothic Duomo Cathedral, and Teatro alla Scala are all in Milan. If you want to pretend like you’re living in Milan rather than just visiting, The Rocco Forte House is your hotel.
Accommodation
The design company Paolo Moschino Ltd, in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, Director of Design at Rocco Forte Hotels, brought the 19th-century palace back to life. The team kept the moldings, original frescoes, and marble flooring intact. The Forte family named and decorated the four different apartments after iconic areas within the city: Brera, Duomo, Isola, and Tortona. While the apartments have their own quirks, they mostly follow the same design principles. Each room has a blend of muted neutrals, jewel tones, and signature stripes.
Each apartment has a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, and your choice of one or two bedrooms. If you’re after a room with a fresco, be sure to book the Brera apartment. If it’s modern art you’re looking for, step onto your balcony and people-watch. The heart of the fashion capital will be swarming with chic and well-dressed people. You can head to the fifth-floor rooftop for the ultimate view, or the traditional courtyard for more privacy.
Inside, your House Concierge can plan your itinerary completely, if your vibe for the trip is hands-off. They can arrange for housekeeping and grocery shopping for your fully equipped kitchen. Hosting friends will be easier than ever; without the hard work of setup and cleanup, all you have to do is show up. You can also request a butler, private chef, and event planner. You can take personalization a step further, with a library of books and music curated to your liking, have a florist design you a bouquet, and arrange for a nanny for a well-deserved break from the kids.
