When it comes to hotels that have their markets cornered, it’s tough to compete with (much less beat) the Oberoi in India. They’ve pretty much perfected the hotel experience that shows you what service should be. Now, for their 33rd act, the world welcomes the Oberoi Vindhyavilas Wildlife Resort, which just opened in March 2025.
You and your ruby slippers may not find lions and bears at the newly-opened Oberoi Vindhyavilas Wildlife Resort, but there are plenty of tigers. One of India’s most iconic wildlife destinations, the region teems with a thriving population of Royal Bengals (at least 135 of them). Thrilling, terrifying, or terrifyingly thrilling, encounters with these majestic beasts are led by the resort’s expert guides. These naturalists also pull back the curtain on the habitats of leopards, elephants, and more than 250 bird species. And the fact that this is all part of the new 5-star Oberoi hotel, is proof that luxury and nature can coexist in a way that is uniquely Oberoi.
Accommodation
Like the tigers that move unseen through Bandhavgarh’s tall grasses, guests of The Oberoi Vindhyavilas dwell in peaceful retreat. 19 luxury tents and 2 luxury villas provide serene sanctuaries, discreetly nestled in nature. Each is secluded and spacious, with sliding doors that open to the privacy of floating decks. You’ll also find plunge pools, and expansive gardens, fragrant with the scent of frangipani. Tribal-inspired details provide a vivid sense of place. Murals by the Gond, one of India’s largest indigenous communities, and wildlife paintings by renowned Bandhavgarh artist, Rakesh Prajapati, grace the walls.
Food + Drink
Culinary options are compliments of Executive Chef Sachin Kumar, who trained with the royal family of Nagod. There, he learned the classic recipes of Bandhavgarh’s Baghel kingdom. His menus within The Dining Room are a celebration of everything Central India offers, like curries and kabobs. Of course, local ingredients steal the spotlight. But, if you’re in the mood for pizzas, fresh seafood, or grilled meats, the wood fired oven delivers.
But there’s other options too. Find jungle-inspired cocktails and snacks within The Lounge. The Bush Kitchen allows for al fresco dining by the lake, and The Tree Court’s central bonfire beckons fellow adventurers with flatbreads and exotic canapés. And for post-safari camaraderie, the best spot is The Deck. Here, you can indulge in teas, coffees and sweet and savory nibbles while swapping safari stories with fellow guests.
Local Excursions
If you’re booking a stay, you’re surely a wildlife enthusiast, and a safari is in order. Expertly-guided game excursions provide up-close-and-personal encounters with the variety of local fauna. You can participate in a pre-safari presentation to help discern the jungle’s sounds, smells, and sights. Or, you can leave it to the highly trained, in-house naturalist team. If your dream is to capture a Bengal close-up, Oberoi’s “the guest is everything” philosophy means that your wish is likely to come true. (We mentioned the tigers, right?)
Of course, if you want a break from the felines of the jungle, you can take a nature walk within the neighboring farm, or visit with local artists, musicians, and storytellers.
