In case you didn’t get the memo, Saudi is one step closer to luxury hotel domination. Set where the mountains meet the desert, they don’t call it Desert Rock for nothing. Think glass villas built right into the mountains.
Cave dwellings don’t usually conjure up images of extreme comfort and luxurious amenities, but that’s because you have yet to experience Desert Rock. This opulent resort, located in the desert of Tabuk province in Saudi Arabia, is hewn from the granite mountains that make this landscape so special. Now that’s the kind of rock shelter we can get behind.
Overview
Opened in February 2025, Desert Rock was designed specifically to disappear into the surrounding scenery. While at night the light shining out of the resort makes it more conspicuous, it’s otherwise very discreet – blink, and you’ll miss it. But there’s more to Desert Rock’s good looks than its ability to blend into the desert. The resort’s architecture is a nod to the rock-hewn constructions of the Nabatean people who inhabited the region many centuries ago. Honoring ancient civilizations in modern construction? We’re here for it.
Accommodations
Desert Rock Resort consists of 10 suites and 54 villas, each offering a private pool and extraordinary views. There is one type of suite on offer (one bedroom) and four types of villas (ranging from one to three bedrooms): Wadi Villas, Cliff-Hanging Villas, Mountain Crevice Villas, and the Royal Villa. The Royal Villa is set away from the others in a secluded part of the valley for extra privacy. If you are a member of the antisocial club, this is the option to book.
Food + Drinks
There are a total of six restaurants and non-alcoholic bars on site (Saudi Arabia is a dry country, remember?). Among them is Nyra, a restaurant dedicated to using local ingredients and wood-fire cooking, and Mica, where you can enjoy innovative mocktails and appetizers. The Observatory, perched high into the mountains, serves drinks and light snacks, and is the place to stargaze in comfort at Desert Rock.
The Spa
Desert Rock’s spa consists of eight treatment rooms, a private hammam, a rhassoul chamber, a well-appointed gym, and a lap pool. The spa menu offers a wide range of treatments, from massages to facials and more.
