You’re a regular at the Nell in Aspen, where it’s not ski season without a long weekend. You discovered Jackson Hole, along with the insider secret that it shines brightest in summer. But Big Sky was always elusive — there’s just not a lot of good places to stay in Montana. Until now. Here’s your guide for where to vacation this ski season and beyond in Big Sky.
Why Big Sky
If you’re under the impression that Big Sky is Montana’s best kept secret, we’re sadly here to burst your bubble. The resort town has officially risen to celebrity status, with more big names laying down roots by the day. And for those of us who want all the small town vibes without sacrificing a hint of luxury, it’s easy to see why Big Sky is the place to be.
It’s a town incredibly invested in its own future (check out the Big Sky 2025 Plan), so there truly is something for everyone. Adrenaline junkies will find all there is to enjoy about the great outdoors. Here you can ride horses, fly-fish, hike Montana’s famously stunning trails, or shred through nearly 6,000 acres of skiable land.
Also, foodies can find elevated comfort food served up après-ski-style across Big Sky’s range of dining options. Big Sky Resort alone offers 14 eateries, ranging from craft cocktails at Westward Social to street tacos at the Taqueria. But before you can dig into all Big Sky has to offer, you need a place to stay. And we have it. Enter the Montage. A resort like this upgrades the already popular town to VIP status. We would even say the Montage pushed Big Sky into the luxury travel scene in a big way. And this isn’t the first time we’ve talked about it. We announced the hotel’s buzzy opening back in March. Here’s a check-in on this home base to Big Sky.
Your Montage Experience
Rooms
When Montage invites you to “experience the beauty of Big Sky Country,” they mean it. The resort’s interior emphasizes Montana’s rustic charm through a palette of locally sourced woods, spanning 139 guest rooms and suites. Select rooms offer sweeping mountain views, fireplaces, and walk-in showers, to name a few of the resort’s amenities.
Additionally, for the first time in Montana, Montage is offering guests a unique opportunity to call the luxury property home. The Inn Residences at Montage are a development of 39 homes that range in square footage and are just steps away from the Montage. Starting at $1.5 million, Inn Residences include all of the resort’s privileges like priority dining and spa reservations, access to all amenities (including the seven dining establishments), a children’s program, as well as resident-exclusive lounges, ski lockers, a lobby bar, a pool, and an outdoor deck.
Amenities
If there’s one thing the team at Montage makes clear it’s that you shouldn’t have to sacrifice luxury just to get a taste of the Wild West. Framed by the Spanish Peaks mountain range, the property is positioned to allow ski-in/out access to Big Sky Resort — home to those 6,000 open acres we mentioned. Guests at Montage will find no shortage of adventure in any season, with a property that has three fly-fishing rivers, an 18-hole golf course, and an 11,000-square-foot spa.
And, in true Big Sky fashion, Spa Montage focuses on nature-inspired experiences. Some of us want to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the outdoors from the comfort of a heated pool, and Montage gets that. The spa’s Living Well treatments include premium Masterpiece facials and Oxylight skincare technology.
Dining
Montage promises a dining experience fit for every guest and every occasion. And we don’t doubt it, considering the property has many food options showcasing local ingredients across an array of cuisines. Cortina serves up traditional Northern Italian fare, while Alpenglow, Beartooth Pub, and Backcast Bar focus on drinks and small bites. Wildflower Market is also available for stocking up on artisanal goods and coffees, as well as 24-hour in-room dining services. Staying here means you get the Big Sky experience you want, and maybe a celebrity sighting while you’re at it.
