We have a confession to make: Although we’re several generations older than Taylor Swift, we’re still obsessive fans. It’s because she’s a boss who fearlessly tells it like it is. Whether she’s writing an open letter to CEO Tim Cook to stand up for artists living for that next royalty check, using her social media platforms to call out a certain less-than-top-performing US leader, or taking on bullies who are formidable frenemies, this woman is a bada–.
So in other words, Taylor can do pretty much anything and we would follow her, and that includes her extravagant vacations. From Cabo to Cannes, Taylor does it all. In honor of her birthday, these are the top places where you too can vacation like Taylor Swift.
Where: Turks and Caicos
If anything, Taylor is consistent, and Turks and Caicos is a frequent stop, whether she’s vacationing with her Mom, ex-Calvin Harris or current and maybe “The One”, Joe Alwyn. Who could blame her, as Turks is renowned for having the most beautiful beaches and water in the Caribbean.
Where: Hawaii
Taylor is one confident role model, where she is known for running with a crew of overachievers – whether they are super models, rock stars, artists, actors – if you’re exceptional, you have a shot of being friends with Taylor. So where do you go for a girl’s trip? Hawaii, of course, where you board your own private yacht to watch dolphins, whales and Shake it Off. Sorry – couldn’t resist quoting at least one song in this article.
Where: Rhode Island
We have a lot to say about Rhode Island. Taylor’s homes are destinations unto themselves – to the tune of over $80 million in her US real estate portfolio alone. Rhode Island is her go-to spot, where she has created and produced some of her most beautiful music to date, some of which is about her estate. We’re not surprised she’s been inspired by her $17 million Rhode Island mansion with a storied past. Once home to a wealthy widow named Rebekah Harkness, the property has seen extravagant parties attended by the likes of Salvador Dalí. Today, Swift has kept up the home’s reputation and, when the pandemic wasn’t an issue, routinely hosted guests such as Gigi Hadid, Emma Stone, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Though you may need a different last name or job to get invited to her house, you can get pretty close.
This year, when Taylor and the rest of us are pretty limited on travel, we can follow her up to Rhode Island, where even in the winter, views of the cliffs and walks on the beach are beautiful. Known for its gorgeous mansions, Watch Hill was once a site for the country’s elite, including the Vanderbilts who owned one of many Gilded Age homes designed with the Italian Renaissance in mind. Today, Watch Hill is still where some of the wealthiest in the country come to play, and you can enjoy a relaxing getaway like Taylor at the town’s five diamond hotel — Ocean House.
Gilded Age cottages and lavish turn-of-the-century decor make up this incredible hotel where you’ll feel just like Taylor as you become immersed in the culture of Watch Hill. Each private bungalow is built with history in mind yet furnished with bespoke decor and all the amenities of a luxury hotel. While there, you can soak up the surroundings with art classes and museum tours and who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love and get inspired to write a song or two. Some of Taylor’s favorite activities in Watch Hill include biking and hiking along the beachside trails and yachting at sea. She also frequents the nearby art galleries and antique stores. And, though Taylor loves to spend summers in Watch Hill, it’s truly a year-round destination, as the pandemic has proven, and during the winter you can cozy up by your private fireplace at Ocean House.
This year, traveling far and wide hasn’t been on anyone’s agenda, but staycations don’t have to be boring. And we will always trust Taylor when it comes to knowing where to stay.
