The simple answer is that the Ambani family is India’s richest family, with a net worth of around $122 billion or so. That kind of coin makes the Ambani family one of the wealthiest in the world. If you need exact figures, the Ambanis are the 11th wealthiest according to the Fortune Magazine bible list. The family made their money through Reliance Industries, the largest private corporation in India.
By comparison Jeff Bezos, the world’s second wealthiest individual clocks in at around $212 billion, and Elon Musk sits at #1 with $249 billion. All these numbers fluctuate of course according to stock prices, investments in Twitter/X, etc., etc. But what’s a few billion here and there at this level of wealth? The answer is not a lot. So, in relative terms, the Ambani family spending hundreds and millions of dollars on this seven-month celebration is kind of reasonable. That and they do need to make a good impression on their new in-laws, who are a pharmaceutical billionaire family themselves.

The 1,200-person March engagement party saw the likes of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg. So, you knew that the Ambani wedding was going to be lavish. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant wed at the 16,000-capacity Jio World Convention Center with a red carpet and all. Wedding festivities are robust and there are thousands of people in attendance. It’s a prime opportunity though for guests at the Ambani wedding to see not only Mumbai but to travel through India.
