J-Law entertains as much off-screen as she does on. But it’s good to see her back big-time in movies this year. There’s a movie with Leo, a Hunger Games reboot, and even a project with Amy Schumer. This means a lot of hang time around the world for Jennifer Lawrence.

Filming in Prague

The Oscar-winning actress was in Prague this winter filming “What Happens at Night,” the latest feature film from director Martin Scorsese. The “City of a Hundred Spires” substitutes nicely for a good number of European places. Increasingly popular, Czechia is one of Europe’s leading film locations, continuing its growth supported by reforms around industry incentives.

W Prague

These days, locals are accustomed to seeing film production vehicles parked around historic Wenceslas Square. Nevertheless, a Hollywood takeover of Prague at the level of Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Scorsese is an attention-grabber by any standard.

Shot in late February, the main square and boulevard in Prague’s New Town is a backdrop for “What Happens at Night.” Interestingly, there are reports of Lawrence being seen as a brunette during a shoot at the W Prague. Prior to a recent restoration, this landmark was formerly known as Grand Hotel Europa. The property’s Belle Epoque facade and gilded interiors are strong on cinematic appeal, like a magnet for the camera lens seeking authenticity.

Unsurprisingly billed as a major feature, the upcoming film is described as a “Gothic psychological horror film.” Jennifer Lawrence co-stars opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in her second collaboration—his eighth—with the acclaimed director. In addition, actors Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris have supporting roles. Because production got off to a late start in 2026, the movie’s release is expected in 2027.

Filming in Czechia’s Countryside

During the winter of 2026, film production was staged at a Central Bohemian location near Kolin, about an hour east of Prague. In the small town of Ratbof, the historic Château Kotěra stands as a backdrop for countryside scenes in the movie. Formerly a family estate built around 1911, the property’s extensive grounds were covered with artificial snow to match the narrative. Visitors are welcome, as the neoclassical venue normally operates as a four-star boutique hotel of 19 rooms and a restaurant.

This rural Czechia setting makes a good fit for the film’s unexpected story line. Specifically, an American couple interacts with enigmatic strangers in a largely deserted hotel while going through the process of adopting a baby in a small, snowy European village.

Úštěk, Northern Bohemia

In the Northern Bohemia village of Úštěk, well-preserved architecture provides another small town draw for international filmmakers seeking noteworthy period settings. On a misty winter morning, imagine steep and narrow terraced streets around the medieval town square, giving off a fairytale-like quality. Conveniently located just an hour from Prague and halfway to Dresden, the tiny town is staged for arrival and departure scenes in the latest Scorsese film.

Spain for ‘The Hunger Games’

It’s a wrap for Jennifer Lawrence, appearing in the sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise. Highly anticipated, “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is confirmed to have Lawrence reprising her role as Katniss Everdeen. As such, production teams chose locations around far-flung Asturias, Spain for arena action.

The country’s northwest region is known for its medieval capital, Oviedo, where production offices were installed. Outside the city, this is one of the wildest regions in Spain. Dramatic landscape features a rugged coastline along the Cantabrian Sea, high mountains, and dense forests.

Accordingly, much of The Hunger Games action scenes are set in Somiedo Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Adhering to strictly managed production practices to avoid environmental impact, the park’s glacial lakes represent rugged, untamed beauty. Yet more scenes are shot inside the beech forest at Hayedo de Montegrande and pine forest at Piedrafita de Babia.

Focus on Germany

Moving on from Spain, Germany comes into focus on location for The Hunger Games. Near Cologne, the privately owned 14th century Ehreshoven Castle—moated and evocative—was selected to represent a luxurious Capitol mansion.

Later in the story, the prequel enacts training and chariot scenes. These scenes are shot at two 20th century venues in Berlin: the now abandoned, futuristic-looking congress center (ICC) as well as the imposing 1936 Olympic Stadium.

The picture’s release is coming soon. Opening date for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” is November 20, 2026.

Lawrence’s Next Projects

There’s a talked-about, yet not confirmed, project on the horizon for Jennifer Lawrence. She would be co-writing the script—which she hopes to produce—with pal Amy Schumer and Amy’s sister/collaborator Kim Caramele. Naturally, it would be a comedy.

Lawrence has yet another film production project. This one is confirmed, as she mentioned during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in November 2025. Described as a film in which she will appear, the script is being written by Tony Award-winner Cole Escola. Lawrence says her plot idea involves Miss Piggy as a feminist icon, with Emma Stone playing the Muppet-head.

It’s all more than enough to keep Jennifer Lawrence occupied with her family, career, and travels in what’s already a busy calendar. But whatever she can manage to do, we’ll be watching.
