Your ferry has just reached port: you’re in Mykonos and ready for the vacation of a lifetime. You want clear water, a piece of the island’s famous social scene, and a luxury sun bed with full service to get your tan on. Solymar, a beach club in Mykonos, has you covered on all of these accounts. So what’s a day at Solymar really look like? Here’s the review.
Overview
Solymar is a restaurant and beach club in Mykonos on Kalo Livadi Beach. Locals will recommend this beach as boasting some of the clearest water on the island, and we have to concur. The club is exclusive: reservations are required, and we recommend you book in advance to secure your spot. Rows 1 and 2, closest to the shoreline, cost a little extra but offer perks such as unobstructed views of the Aegean Sea and the Island of Naxos, amuse bouche, and cold drinks. With lunch service, a massage area, and an extensive wine and cocktail menu right from your sun bed, you can melt your cares away until sunset.
Atmosphere
If you arrive at Solymar in the morning, from around 9-11, you’ll find hyper-attentive staff, foamy iced cappuccinos, and little heard coffee-house covers. The vibe is tranquil and private. The crowd is mostly people in their 30s-50s and millennial couples. This is the time to sit back and dive into the book you’ve been meaning to read for months. Right after lunch, however, the entire vibe of the club changes with the music. The DJ switches to louder, oceanic club music with reggae undertones. Large groups of people in their mid-twenties start arriving, and the dance party on the beach ensues (trust us- it’s almost impossible not to join in). Solymar curates the exact beach-chic party vibe you’d hope for from a beach club in Mykonos.
Food
Solymar has a regular service restaurant as well as a beach menu. The beach menu offers brunch, lunch, sushi, and bowls. For breakfast, we tried the fresh fruit and yogurt with honey: fresh pineapple, apricot, strawberry, apple, plum, and pear were the perfect complement to the beach-chic vibe. For lunch, we went poke bowl: and yes, the fish tastes straight out of the sea, made even better with a clean and spicy wasabi sauce. While the food is undoubtedly tasty and fresh, prepare for some seriously high prices. Like, 15 Euros for a popsicle high. It’s worth noting that for a good beach club in Mykonos, this is standard.
Service
The staff at Solymar aren’t just really on top of making sure your every need is met, they’re also really excited to be there. With genuine smiles and really impressive tans, they even get in on the dance party when lightly encouraged. The moment you arrive, water is poured and any food, drink, or service you request is only minutes away. It’s evident that this beach club in Mykonos carefully vets its applicants.
