Louis Vuitton likes to keep us on our toes. When we least expect it, the brand comes up with its first-ever makeup line, opens up cafés and restaurants, and launches an upscale airport lounge. And while the French luxury fashion house’s foray into the world of cosmetics is aligned with its ethos, its expansion into the world of hospitality is a little more surprising. So much so, that when a few years ago, the rumor spread about a potential Louis Vuitton hotel opening in Paris, it had the world buzzing with anticipation. But is there really a Louis Vuitton hotel in the works in the French capital?

Louis Vuitton On The Champ-Elysées

There’s no denying it: Louis Vuitton is up to something on the Champs-Elysées. The brand has been on the avenue for well over 100 years, and its flagship store currently inhabits number 101. But since Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) acquired the building next door (number 103), the rumor mill has been working at full speed.

Louis Vuitton Paris Hotel

Many say that the building, which has been undergoing renovations since 2023, will host a grand Louis Vuitton Hotel. Others say it will be the new location of the brand’s flagship store and that it will only have a few suites on the upper floors for VIP guests. Once thing is for sure, however: the new building has become a tourist attraction.

Louis Vuitton’s Giant Trunk Building

No matter what the new building will host, its never-ending renovation has been the talk of the town. That’s mostly because for the duration of the work, the edifice has been entirely encased in a replica of a classic Louis Vuitton trunk. The mammoth trunk is hyper realistic, with clasps, rivets, and the famous monogrammed pattern. It’s an impressive sight that is not only eye-catching, but also a strike of genius. Because the building is literally under wraps, it’s a great way to build anticipation, while also advertising non-stop for the brand.

And it’s not the only trunk installation that Louis Vuitton has put together. The brand’s Fifth Avenue location in New York City also got the trunk treatment while it’s being renovated. It looks a little different from the one in Paris, but it’s just as dramatic.

An Opening Date For The Louis Vuitton Hotel

Whatever’s hiding behind the trunk replica, you’ll have to wait a little longer to find out. Last we heard, the opening date is set to 2027.
