We really like these travel updates nowadays, as the best of the best reopen to the world. Especially when it’s in Italy, where they knows a thing or two about luxury hotels. One of the best — tucked high up on a hilltop with lifetime views of Liguria, is the Belmond Splendido. Its infinity pool speaks a thousand words.
On the Legends List
When it comes to hotels, the Belmond Splendido is legendary. And that was even before LVMH acquired Belmond, and took it next level. It’s off the charts on the romance factor, from the moment you ascend up the hill to its perch above Portofino. Rooms are so classically Belmond it hurts – this may just be their crown jewel of the portfolio. The decor is classically Italian villa there is no doubt you are in Italy. At the same time though, you’re not intimidated to sit on the furniture. Splendido achieves the right balance between high elegance and deeply comfortable. Service has no pretense at all, and is warmly Italian.
The Food
Leave your gluten-free BS at the door, unless you have a legitimate reason for not carb loading. Their focaccia is what dreams are made of, where there’s a full table at breakfast dedicated to bread. For those who are first-timers in Liguria, we would like to introduce you to trofie with Genovese pesto, the pasta you didn’t know you absolutely needed in your life. No one does pesto like Liguria, and at Splendido it’s among the best in the region. Also don’t forget about the mussels, which are a sweeter, larger variety than you’ll experience stateside.
Splendido Mare
Splendido’s sister hotel, which is right in the heart of the piazza of town, also reopened with a whole new look. If your preference is to be right in the mix of the action, the new Mare is worth a peek.
