In Barcelona, rooftop pools with views of the Sagrada Familia and the warm waters of the Balearic Sea are too numerous to mention, but only a handful provide a total-care experience. This is where you can rest, relax and rejuvenate after a day spent exploring and eating. This is Lara Stella’s guide for the best hotels in Barcelona, and where to go for the best city views.

Off the well-worn path for great views of the city
You’ll need good walking shoes and water, but the beauty of this compact city is its walkability. A half-day in the sunshine working out your glutes and you’ll feel deserving of an afternoon with a bowl of patatas bravas and jug of sangria.
Barcelona isn’t well-served by public facilities, so without being too gross about it, think ahead with tissues and bags for disposal if you think you might have an urge. Luckily, most walks can be done in half a day for those that can hold on.
Carmel
Behind Parc Guell is Carmel – a criss-cross of winding paths that culminate in one of the city’s best views at the tippy top. Then, wind your way down the back of the hill for quirky architecture in the local neighborhoods, or explore further and make your way up more hills to Parc Turo Putxet.
Montjuic
This one is for the history buff. Walk from the west, past the old bull-fighting ring, through the Venetian Towers and up to the National Museum of Catalunya. Do this before heading through the dense parkland to the top of the hill. This fortress cum prison and emblem of Catalan independence delivers one of the best views of the city, from the sea to the surrounding hills.
Tibidabo
Look west on Balmes and Rambala de Catalunya and you’ll see a church. This is actually a church on top of another church, on one of the city’s many hills – alongside a few amusement park rides. This is an appetite-generating walk up Balmes. It passes some of the city’s grandest homes of the last century, before reaching the old tramway to the funicular. From there, you can either keep walking or take the easy route.
Collserolla Park
It’s not easy to get to but well-worth the hike if you’re in need of a good workout. Pack an entrepan from your local bakery, and bring plenty of water. Make sure you have Komoot installed – the trails aren’t well marked, but the scenery and native scents are spectacular.
