No matter what you’re celebrating in the coming weeks, or if you’re not celebrating at all, restaurants don’t disappoint over the holidays. This time of year, you could spend hours browsing all the delights they’ll deliver. Who doesn’t love some brisket with cherry sauce or matzo ball soup? Here are the best restaurants that will cook for you this Passover and Easter.
Russ & Daughters
Russ & Daughters is a New York staple for a reason. The Jewish bakery and cafe doesn’t do anything halfway, and after more than 100 years in the game, they’ve just about mastered holiday catering. Their Passover Essentials package includes all the hits, from their famous chicken soup and matzo balls to the chopped liver and gefilte fish. Another holiday-worthy option is their Ultimate Salmon and Caviar package, complete with– you guessed it– 250 grams of Russ & Daughters’ select caviar, along with their Scottish Salmon. The star proteins are paired with creme fraiche, hand-whipped cream cheese, blini, caviar toasts, and capers. All of Russ & Daughters’ catering packages can be ordered here.
Sadelle’s
If you’re looking for a more customizable catering option, consider Sadelle’s. While the Soho spot offers year-round catering, their menu practically screams ‘Spring Holiday Brunch’. There are a few pre-selected options, like the Good Morning or Early Morning packages, which include your typical spread of bagels, cream cheese, veggies, and optional additions of smoked fish. But we recommend freestyling it and creating your own Easter brunch buffet at home. Grab a few dozen bagels, house-cured salmon, and your favorite few cream cheese. And while you’re at it, some caviar too. These are the holidays, after all. Check out Sadelle’s catering options here.
Mitchel London Catering
This is what we like to call the insider’s scoop. Mitchel London may not be serving food at the Oscars, but this lesser-known catering company is one of the best in the business. Their Passover menu has just about everything you could ever want out of a holiday brunch and it is customizable. You can choose from classics like brisket, matzo balls, and potato pancakes, or try something new with additions like haricot verts or honey lemon roasted salmon. Mitchel London also offers a separate Easter menu this year with festive, spring-inspired dishes. Think sweet pea and leek soup, buttermilk biscuits, and strawberry shortcake. You can get in touch with Mitchel London about organizing your own holiday brunch catering here.
Edy’s Grocer
You may have heard some buzz about Edy’s Grocer, a new Lebanese-Polish grocer in Greenpoint. With its millennial pink walls and trendy mezze fridge, it’s the hottest new place for Brooklynites to get their specialty ingredients. Think Lebanese olive oil, pomegranate molasses, and sparkling cardamom tea, to name a few. The owner, Edy Massih, got his start in the New York catering scene at just twenty-two and has put together the Lebanese Easter menu of your dreams. Inspired by his grandmother’s Easter table in Lebanon, the menu comes with a Mediterranean-style whole roasted branzino, springy couscous salad, three mezze of your choice, spiced rice, and traditional Lebanese Easter cake. A single Edy’s Easter Feast serves two, though the order can be doubled to feed more. Pre-order the feast for pickups between April 8th-9th here.
Katz’s
Sometimes, it’s best to just go back to the classics. And as simple as it may be, you can’t find a more classic Passover meal than that available at Katz’s. It’s technically a dinner package, but let’s be honest– the plan is to keep eating all day. Each Passover meal serves 6-8 people and includes hand-carved brisket, house-made gravy, gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, potato kugel, and kosher honey cake. If you aren’t a fan of gefilte fish, you can also substitute the main for pastrami or hand-carved turkey breast. Katz’s Passover catering is available for delivery starting Thursday, March 30, and can be ordered here.
The Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare
Dining in-person at The Chef’s Table is anything but casual. You’re committing to three hours with 15 courses, and while the Chef’s 3 Michelin stars might make the whole thing worth it, it’s still a lot. So, when the team behind Brooklyn Fare began offering takeout and catering, you could say we were excited. Their catered dishes are prepared in-house daily in the same kitchen as the restaurant itself, so you really are getting a Michelin-rated meal even at home. The menu itself is full of variety, and completely customizable based on what time of day or the kind of event you’re hosting. Whether you choose the black truffle deviled eggs, smoked salmon platter, or spring for the sushi, your holiday brunch guests will definitely be happy.
