Manhatta: The 60th Level

Manhatta

Manhatta

Good for:

After-work drinks with friends, date night, and small bites with the best view in town. It’s worth making a reservation ahead of time if you want to secure a seat – the restaurant is divided into two sections (drinks and bites in one, and three-course meal in the other), and it’s first come first serve for both.

Atmosphere:

Sophisticated, but lively. It’s cool, it’s modern, and it’s on the 60th floor of a downtown skyscraper. The floor-to-ceiling windows on every side of the restaurant mean that every corner of Manhatta is an Instagram-able photo op, and it’s worth going up there if only to see the view.

Why we like it:

Everything is good in moderation, and Manhatta has this notion nailed. The cocktail menu isn’t huge, but there is plenty of variety, and each cocktail is piquant and original. The bites are exactly that: bites. The portions are small, but very filling – which means that you can try them all. If you initially come for the atmosphere, you’re going to stay for the bites.

What to order:

Start with a cocktail – either the Castle Garden or the Entre Nous, depending on your preference of gin or vodka.

Out of the snacks, we recommend the Croque Madame (which is ham, bechamel, and quail egg) – a signature Manhatta New American take on the classic French sandwich. We’re never seen it made that way before, but it’s delicious.

And if you’re a mushroom fan, the Tempura Mushrooms are definitely worth it too. Although, if you’re in a larger group, you could probably order all five of the snack options, and still have room for more snacks.

If you’re getting the three-course meal, we recommend the Gatekeeper for dessert – it’s pickled apples with a pretzel, so it’s light, and means that you’ll still have plenty of room for more after-dinner cocktails.
