The Peninsula Manila
Why we like it:
When we’re on our way to the Amanpulo and need a place to post up overnight, The Peninsula Manila does not disappoint. In Manila, it is the most classic, luxury place to stay. For locals, it’s one of the centers of social life in the country.
Location, Location, Location
The hotel is conveniently located in Makati, minutes away from the Salcedo Saturday Market, in close proximity to all the major shopping malls. You’re a quick ride or walk to Glorietta, Power Plant, Century City, and Greenbelt. Also, some of the best restaurants are all within walking distance too (we especially recommend the Blackbird Manila). The daily breakfast is a the equivalent of an American hotel’s Sunday brunch buffet.
Value for Price and Service
The price of the hotel, while on the pricier side of all other hotels in Manila, is reasonable by luxury hotel standards. The team is genuine in their approach to want to help you, with even the less conventional requests. When we were there, we wanted to make a donation to a local orphanage. As part of this, we also gifted a meal of Jollybee, the popular restaurant chain in the Philippines, and cupcakes for all the kids. The staff made this happen seamlessly and with genuine kindness.
What to know:
While this is one of the most luxury hotels in the world, it is still located in a Third World Country. It may not be on par with The Peninsula Beverly Hills, but it is still the best in The Philippines. That is, at least until the Mandarin Oriental opens. Even then though, the Peninsula Manila has history. It will always be the classic grand dame, of where to stay in Manila.
