A Preview of Awasi Iguazu Falls

Argentina just got another reason to visit. Awasi Iguazu has opened in Iguazu, near the world’s largest waterfalls. At the top of the Relais & Châteaux food chain, Awasi is pure elegance, a place where the spectacular natural is a work of art. This is the preview of a destination for your list.

The Location

Argentina is home to the Atlantic rainforest, one of multiple sights to behold while staying at the new Awasi Iguazu. In Misiones, Argentina, the Awasi Iguazu property sits on the edge of the Iguazu river. But the big attraction, of course, is the series of spectacular local waterfalls, which together form a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Awasi Iguazu makes this stay better than (say) your run-of-the-mill trip to Niagara. At the lodges, the staff includes native Guaraní people who can give guests an introduction to the rainforest. Love the water? You can book a boat tour or a paddle-boarding adventure.

Overview

Awasi Iguazu is perfect for peaceful isolation. Each of its 14 private villas is close enough to the main lodge, but also secluded enough that you feel as if you’re really in the rainforest. This aspect makes it perfect for couples. Pair that with a private tour of the waterfalls…what could be more romantic? The resort’s focus on sustainability is also appealing. For instance, the carbon emissions of the villas? They’re absorbed by the 340 hectares of native woodlands that Awasi Iguazu is responsible for protecting.

The Villas

The property includes 13 standard villas and one master villa. The standard villas measure about 1,100 square feet, plus a deck and a plunge pool. The Master Villa is a bit more of an upgrade, with two bedrooms, a larger living room, and a roomier pool. Each villa has access to jungle views, only a short while away from the always-rushing waterfalls.

The Food

The food is as integrated with forest life as the villas are. Dishes are simple, local, and seasonal, and have even earned a spot on the Relais & Châteaux group. They are the third Awasi lodge to do this and one of 10 restaurants and hotels in Argentina to be awarded this honor. Some of their signature dishes are the marinated Pacú with mango and fennel salad, and the Dorado with cabutía pumpkin, saffron sauce, and pistachio praliné. Both Pacú and Dorado are local freshwater fish.
