Retirement looks like a lot of fun for Shaun White. The three-time Olympic gold medalist left professional snowboarding behind in February 2022 after his final competition at the Beijing Winter Olympics, and since then, it looks like he’s been traveling non-stop. Even his break-up with his fiancée Nina Dobrev earlier this fall hasn’t slowed him down.

Snow, Snow, And More Snow

You can’t expect a professional snowboarder, even a retired one, to forget all about his love of the sport. In fact, Shaun White is still very much in the snow business. He runs The Snow League, a professional competitive league for snowboarders and freeskiers. And, he runs White Space — his own brand of snow gear. All this means that he has to go where the snow is.

In August, he traveled to Valle Nevado in Chile’s Andes Mountains for a White Space campaign shoot. Known for its world-class terrain and snow quality, the resort is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. So, it makes sense that it attracts some very big names. And, of course, going south is the only way to find snow in the middle of August.

Right after his trip to Chile, and after his split from Dobrev, Shaun White took off to Beijing, this time for The Snow League. White had not gone back to China since the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, his last. It was a nostalgic trip for him but one that was also packed with work. The Snow League second competitive event is scheduled to take place in Yunding Snow Park from December 4-6, 2025.

But, Shaun White clearly can’t stay still for very long. In October, he was off to Saas-Fee, Switzerland. The car-free village located by the Italian border has one of the highest ski areas in the Alps and delivers good snow. Not only that, but it boasts 300 days of sunshine per year.

But It’s Not All About Mountain Destinations

But even a snow addict like Shaun White knows when to take a little break from the mountain slopes. He too, seeks out sun and urban fun when possible.

In July, he and Dobrev took a little R&R vacation at the luxury resort Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California. The seafront property is one that pushes guests to disconnect – there are no televisions or alarm clocks in any of the accommodations. But, with killer ocean views and outstanding amenities, you don’t really need to look at a screen or care about the time of day.

In September, right after his adventure in China, White made his 56th trip to Japan. While he was there to do some work for The Snow League, he managed to squeeze in a little sightseeing and delicious food in Tokyo, a city he loves.

All this might seem like a lot of traveling, but it looks like this was just the tip of the iceberg for White. This fall, he also went to Vegas for 24 hours, took a quick detour to do some leaf-peeping in New York, and spent a sun-filled weekend in Barbados with a group of his male friends (or “Barbabros,” as he calls it). While he is supposed to be living on a ranch in Southern Nevada, it’s pretty clear that White spends very little time at home.
