Another day, another celeb moves to Austin. So, there must be something to it, where Austin nowadays seems to be where people are carving their own piece of the American Dream. Or, at least listening to a lot of good music and taking in the culinary scene. These are the spots where the local celebs in residence experience it all.
The Celeb: Matthew McConaughey

The least surprising celeb to live in Austin is probably Matthew McConaughey, a Texas native and lover of all things Texas. However, it isn’t just the familiarity he cherishes. Instead its the power of ritual, close community ties, and even Texas-style homes that brought he and his wife back to the state in 2012.
If he isn’t watching soccer games, or at church, or simply droning to his wife Camila about how much he loves Texas, Matthew is taking a leisurely drive to Opie’s BBQ in Spicewood Texas. The BBQ joint outside of Austin has a reputation for supplying all kinds of meats with the winning item being their sausage.
And when he is being a good husband, he is following his Brazilian born wife Camila to Boteco ATX Food Truck. The award winning truck serves authentic Brazilian favorites like pastel de queijo and picanha grelhada.
The Celeb: Elon Musk
The Spots:
Since 2020, Elon and the Tesla Headquarters have been tied to Austin. For a man like Elon, frequent travel and multiple property ownerships are par for the course. But for a good part of the past couple of years, Austin’s waterfront has housed Elon in a mansion owned by one of his longtime friends.
Today, the Tesla factory and headquarters employ thousands of residents from Texas towns near Austin and in the southern part of the state. That means Elon has new fav spots in the area. One of his favorite restaurants is Fonda San Miguel. The restaurant serves traditional Oaxacan, Pueblan, Yucatanian and Veracruzian menu items.
Elon also has dined at 1618 Asian Fusion.This is locally owned restaurant with delicious dishes inspired by Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese favorites like Pad Thai and Dim Sum.
The Celeb: Kirsten Dunst
The Spots:
Since the pandemic, Kirsten and her husband and Texas native Jesse Plemons have lived in ATX where the pace of life fits in with their family. Jesse might have had a heavy hand in convincing Kirsten of the joys of Austin. He actually lived there before the pair got married and lived in LA.
But it didn’t take much for her to come around. The paparazzi-free streets, friendly neighbors and beautiful parks quickly suited them raising kids and living a normal life. Kirsten also loves to have a good time with her husband, so you can find her having a drink at Sahara Lounge in East Austin. The bar is known to be relaxed and vibey, with an African influence and select cocktails. For a quick bite, she’ll pop by Torchy’s Tacos, an authentic Texas taco house. Torchy’s has a couple of locations across the state.
