Forget nepo-babies. Andie MacDowell has declared herself the benefactor of just the opposite. Just call her nepo-mom and mom-in-law with all the well-deserved perks from daughter Margaret Qualley and son-in-law Jack Antonoff.

The Duo

MacDowell and Qualley are one of Hollywood’s strongest mother-daughter duos. The two celebrate each other’s careers with sightings at premiere parties together, like Qualley’s Drive- Away Dolls premiere party. They have even starred in a production together. When Qualley was starring in Maid, a Netflix miniseries, she cold-called Margot Robbie (the executive producer) and pitched having MacDowell play her mother on screen.

A few months ago, MacDowell attended The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to celebrate the third season of The Way Home. It so happens that the show she stars in is about three generations of strong, independent women. MacDowell has her priorities straight. During the interview, she discussed her daughter’s recent successes in films like The Substance. The two have a healthy, supportive relationship, though—as mothers tend to do—MacDowell says her daughter is braver than she has ever been. “I’m now cool, because I’m Margaret Qualley’s mom,” she told Fallon, referring to her experience as reverse nepotism.

While Qualley has risen to stardom through her own merits and is doing the job well, her mother equally deserves credit as a pioneer in the industry for women. Before acting, there was modeling, and MacDowell signed with L’Oreal at 27. Now, 40 years later, she tells Fallon that people diminish you as you age, so every time you see her in an ad campaign saying, “I’m worth it,” she means it. In that spirit, we’ve decided to celebrate the two women who empower each other by highlighting their travels. Despite doing a whole lot together, the two tend to travel separately.

 Travel like Andie

These days, MacDowell has returned to her roots in South Carolina. But, she has traveled throughout her career, with vacations in places like Dubai, Paris, and Fiji—in a series called Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous: The World’s Most Exotic Vacation Resorts. While the list may not be up to date considering the show aired in 1988, here is our updated selection so you can enjoy Fiji like MacDowell.

COMO Laucala Island feels luxurious from the start. It is one of the biggest private islands in the world, but it only caters to 25 villas. You’ll be surrounded by a David Mclay Kidd-Designed 18-hole Championship Course, a 240-acre farm, and the rest is tropical rainforest. Everything is paid for upfront, so you can always accept a massage or second helping at the restaurant without thinking twice. COMO Shambhala Retreat is the hotel’s spa at the top of a hill, where you can enjoy open-air treatments and ponder which of the 333 Islands you’ll see next.

Travel like Margaret

Qualley has attended film festivals in places like Venice, Italy, Paris, and Newport Beach, California. During her Venice travels back in 2019, Qualley enjoyed her downtime with former partner Pete Davidson on a water taxi and walking through the piazzas. If you’ve been meaning to book a trip to Venice and live out your romantic trip, we recommend staying at Aman Venice or a newer renovation, Rosewood Hotel Bauer. Aman Venice was Kylie Jenner’s choice during her first visit to Venice. It is directly on the Grand Canal and has an old-world feel, with 18th-century frescos sweeping across the ceilings. Aman throws in its modern touches, so you can enjoy the art of the past and the amenities of the future. Rosewood Hotel Bauer holds onto the backbones of the once-famed Hotel Bauer, a 19th-century hub for the affluent. The 110-room hotel is also on The Grand Canal, with three food and lounging areas, including a rooftop.

If in doubt, go to Paris; it is a staple in both women’s travels. And if not Paris, Long Beach Island. Qualley and Antonoff had their wedding ceremony there, and have also vacationed along the Jersey shore.
