Cozy Cabins

There are two types of travelers out there: those who opt to embrace winter in all its glory, and those who would do anything to escape it. If you’re the latter, we’re pretty sure the cozy cabins we selected will change your mind about the cold season. If you’re the former, you won’t need any convincing to stick around when the snow hits. Either way, these over-the-top options are sure to make you change your travel plans for next year. These are the most luxurious, comfiest, and snuggest cabins where to curl up when the temperatures drop

One&Only Moonlight Basin

Location: Big Sky, Montana

If you’re not sold on the traditional log cabin aesthetics but still want a mountain accommodation experience, One&Only Moonlight Basin has what you need. The secluded property has three types of modern and high-end cabins on offer: the Big Sky Cabins, Meadow Cabins, and Alpine Cabins, all of which deliver on luxe amenities, contemporary interiors, privacy, and gorgeous views. That said, we have a soft spot for the Meadow Cabins. After all, it’s hard to beat a bathtub with mountain vistas and a deck with a hot tub and a fireplace. While you don’t have to love skiing to spend time in Big Sky, those who do will be very happy to know that One&Only Moonlight Basin has its own heated gondola to take you to the slopes.

The Eldred Preserve

Location: The Catskills, New York

If it’s an intimate stay you’re looking for, the Branstan Boutique Hotel at Eldred Preserve shall provide. With only 28 luxury accommodations spread over the immense and lush property, you certainly won’t feel overcrowded. There are only five cabins on offer, all featuring their own private patios, fireplaces, and 700 square feet of chic, modern interiors. Views of the surrounding nature are guaranteed – the cabins all feature glass-panelled walls so you can feel immersed in the forest.

Blackberry Farm

Location: Walland, Tennessee

Blackberry Farm consists of 4,200 acres of pristine and tranquil land in the middle of Tennessee’s iconic Great Smoky Mountains. And that alone should be enough to entice you. But, of course, there’s more. Blackberry Farm is home to two kinds of cottages (another word for a cabin, really): the Farmstead Cottage and the Hill Cottages. Both cottage types are exquisitely decorated and make you feel comfortable and right at home, with screen-in porches, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and more. There are many outdoor experiences to partake in at Blackberry Farm, including fly fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. For those who prefer to be a little less active, there’s a well-appointed spa where you can while away the day.

Twin Farms

Location: Barnard, Vermont

Twin Farms has so much going for it that it would take forever to list its good qualities. But we’ll try. For one, it’s a Relais & Château property, which means that it’s got excellent food options and top-notch service. Second, it’s got two Michelin keys, a guarantee that you’re in for an exceptional hotel experience. Finally, it comprises 28 unique cottages and suites over 300 acres of gorgeous, remote countryside. It’s hard to pick the best out of the bunch, but again, we’ll give it a go. Our favorite accommodations on site are the treehouses. The eight modern treehouses at Twin Farms  are cantilevered into the trees 20 feet above the ground to make you feel like you’re deep in the forest. Each treehouse has its own fireplace, and features a calming interior decor with a neutral color palette.

The Point

Location: Saranac Lake, New York

The Point is probably what you think of when you picture yourself vacationing in a cabin in upstate New York. The property has all the traditional elements of a dreamy, luxurious country retreat. The fact that it was built by the Rockefellers over a century ago certainly helps a little. The resort, a Relais & Château property in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, comprises four log cabins totalling 11 guest rooms. Every room is individually decorated to provide guests with a unique experience – and to entice them to come back to see more. Each room has its own handcrafted bed, wood-burning fireplace, outdoor sitting area, and lake views. While it’s hard to choose which room tops them all, we have to admit that The Boathouse has won us over. The view from the canopied bed is the stuff of fairy tales.

Alpine Falls Ranch

Location: Superior, Montana

Alpine Falls Ranch has two Michelin keys — so you know they’re doing something right. In fact, they are doing a lot of things right. The range of accommodations on offer alone is impressive. Think a 16-guest, 9,637 square-foot villa; a 10-guest, 2,800 square-foot lodge; and four cabins able to accommodate between 2 and 14 guests. And you can even rent the entire ranch if you want total privacy. For an intimate, less extravagant stay on the 250-acre property, the cabins are the way to go. Like the rest of the accommodations, they feature a western style, so expect rustic log beds and antlers chandeliers. Winter is a wonderful time of year to visit, especially if you’re keen to try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or hop on a sleigh ride – all of which are available on site.
