Eden Rock St. Barths Reopens

If there’s one place that epitomizes St. Barths, it’s the iconic Eden Rock hotel. After Hurricane Irma devastated the island last year, all the major resorts closed for business. We found ourselves lost last winter without our Eden Rock, aimlessly wandering the world in search for the meaning of life. But a light at the end of the tunnel has appeared, and Eden Rock is slated to reopen in December 2018. And we have hear that it will be better than ever.

All rooms, suites, and villas have been refurbished but retain their trademark beach vibe: airily spacious and furnished with bright wood, burgundy stone floors, and eye-catching artwork from owner Jane Matthews’s collection. As a bonus, two brand new suites with private plunge pools have been built, and three more are to come in the following year. For those of you with kids who are fussy eaters, the three-bedroom Frangipani Beach House is now a villa with all the bells and whistles, including a private chef.

The makeover extends to the Sand Bar, the hotel’s restaurant overlooking the ocean, which has been reimagined as the hub of the hotel. But while its décor has been given a breezy upgrade, master chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is still calling the shots with cocktails and healthy meals inspired by the Michelin-starred swath he cut through NYC. Light pastas, roasted shrimp, spiny lobster – you can have your cake and keep your beach body, too. There’s also a new hangout, the Rémy Bar named after the hotel’s original owner, with a sundeck designed for you to sip island drinks as you work on your tan.

And if you need a break from running on the beach and dipping your toes in the Caribbean, book a massage or facial at the hotel’s holistic spa. Treatments are formulated with natural island elements – minerals, sea water, and clam shells – to get you in that island state of mind.

As of May 31, Eden Rock has been taking reservations … and you’d better believe it’s more competitive than NYC preschool applications. So get on the phone now and book your reservations for 2018.
