The celebs: Will Smith, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Hillary Clinton

The place: Marrakech, Morocco

The hotel: La Mamounia

For decades, Marrakech has been a go-to destination for everyone from politicians to designers to the Hollywood A-List. Yes, it’s a city of exotic, gritty souks, pungent smells, and the chaotic Jemaa el Fna, but there’s also a Beverly Hills vibe, with the wide boulevards, palm trees, and grand-scale hotels. No doubt, it’s a place where a Prince from Bel Air would feel perfectly at home. And wouldn’t you know, Will Smith has been known to stay at La Mamounia, a luxury historic hotel that’s more than ninety years old.

In recent years, the hotel went through a gut renovation to restore and modernize its rooms, common spaces, and famed spa (Gwyneth is a fan). The hotel’s dining experience is iconic with Michelin restaurant Le Marocain and Le Français. Hillary Clinton has been known to toss back a beer at Bar Churchill, a bar named after Winston, who was a frequent visitor. Personally, we like to post up at L’Italien at a table with a view – of the gorgeous lobby and the gorgeous guests populating it. And perhaps our favorite part of the hotel, in all its extravagant Moorish elegance,is the private 20-acre park with bougainvilleas, oranges, and 700-year-old olive trees. They’re as intoxicating as the caffeine in Moroccan whiskey.
