Adare Manor Ireland

Luck of the Irish
January 6, 2014

The celebs: John Travolta and Bill Clinton

The place: Adare, County Limerick, Ireland

The hotel: Adare Manor

Located in a quintessentially charming village, in a country where “storybook towns” have serious competition, Adare Manor earns a coveted spot as one of the best hotels in Ireland. Set on a wee 840 acres, the estate was a private home until 1982. After a total restoration, it’s now easily the most luxurious places to stay outside of Dublin. It’s a mainstay on the celeb circuit through Ireland – just ask John Travolta, who recently checked in with his entourage for a last-minute trip. John flew in his private plane (Adare is just a 25-minute drive to the Shannon International Airport) and set up residence for a few days.

Whether you’re into professional-level golf courses, luxury spas or activities like falconry (it’s a sport too), Adare’s central location makes it an easy base for any Irish vacation. Besides all the amenities, the manor rooms are seriously plush. Our advice is to book a Dunraven State Room – maybe you’ll get the one Bill Clinton stayed in – with a fireplace, large clawfoot tub and stunning views of the estate. If only those walls could talk. For cocktails, head to the hotel bar, the Tack Room, which is a favorite for anyone staying in the area. In the evenings, it’s got great live music, and visiting rockstars have been known to join in group sing-alongs, late into the night. Talk about luck of the Irish.
