Old School NYC Restaurants

The 21 Club; It's Old School

Why we like it: Even though Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street declared that “Lunch is for wimps,” we beg to differ each time we come to this Midtown staple where midday is prime time.

It’s old school – since the resto opened in the 30’s, the service and décor have barely changed. The art is especially impressive. Those of you who are fans of the Americana of Frederick Remington should check out the restaurant’s exhibit, which features of one of the largest private collections in the world. Our favorite aspect of the décor is the ceiling, which is filled with toys from many universal titans: CEOs, sports stars, American presidents, and more. These days, it's more of the Midtown office set, but the 21 Club is always a good time.

What to order: The entire menu is solid, but we like ordering the shellfish tower, Caesar salad, and ribeye so we can nosh on the pommes soufflé side dish, which is puffed potatoes that are crisp on the outside and hollow on the inside.  It’s beyond us why more restaurants don’t serve potatoes this way; it keeps making us come back.
