Galavante on ABC7 Washington DC’s Outside the Classroom, with Ryan Miller

In this episode, Galavante Founder Christine Drinan appeared on ABC7 DC’s Outside the Classroom, an educational show for kids and parents, along with Meteorologist Ryan Miller. Together, they demonstrated how to make crepes that are inspired by France. Christine also made a guest appearance on the Data Show, where she educated kids about the importance of measurements in cooking, especially when making crepes.

The crepe, a delectable dish inspired by France, has a rich history dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Interestingly, it was created by accident when someone accidentally spilled porridge on a hot stove, resulting in a thin and crispy pancake known as the crepe. Here’s a recipe for two servings that is easy to follow:

Ingredients:

– 1 cup of all-purpose flour

– 1 cup of milk

– 2 eggs

– 2 tablespoons of butter

Instructions:

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs lightly for about a minute.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour and milk until smooth and lump-free.
  • Combine the egg mixture with the flour mixture and whisk until you have a smooth batter.
  • Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once melted, add it to the batter and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Let the batter rest for a few minutes to allow the gluten to relax.
  • Heat a non-stick pan or crepe pan over medium heat. Once hot, ladle the batter into the pan and swirl it around to create a thin, even layer.
  • Cook for about 1-2 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown. Then, flip the crepe over and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all the batter is used up.

Serve your crepes with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, or honey. Bon appétit!
