The Top Comfort Food in the USA

The Bandit Cheese Fries

This week is the Super Bowl, so it’s only appropriate to have our  top comfort food for this winter week.  The Super Bowl is the second largest eating day in the US behind Thanksgiving.  Americans take the Super Bowl as an excuse to get together with friends and family, and indulge in classic eats. We came across a chart that tracked the top comfort food by state during the pandemic. The chart is based on Google searches by geographic region.

Of course, we have no idea if this was based on true scientific methods, but we’ll take any excuse to dig into a good chicken and waffles. Check out what your state has been eating this year.  We have a few highlights here as well, and where you can get those eats in NYC.

The Comfort Food: Fried Chicken

The States:

Georgia, Lousiana and Texas

Where to Eat in NYC:

Perry Street.  We know, we were shocked too.  But when Jean-Georges puts his mind to something, the result is top notch.

The Comfort Food: Grilled Cheese

The States:

New York, New Jersey and Maryland

Where to Eat in NYC:

We have to give it to Houseman for their French onion sandwich.  It’s essentially a grilled cheese that tastes like French onion soup and filled with cheese curds. A for creativity and decadence.

The Comfort Food: Mac and Cheese

The States:

So this didn’t technically make this chart, but mac and cheese is in the Hall of Fame, as far as we’re concerned.  It’s one of the first foods you eat as a kid, and it’s timeless when you want top comfort food.

Where to Eat in NYC: It’s hard to beat The Smith for indulgent comfort food in New York.  They just do dishes like blue cheese potato chips and especially mac and cheese right.
