Call us extremists, but when we get going on something good, we tend to take it all the way. So when we committed to a heathy new year – well, at least a healthy week in the new year – we immediately wanted to purge everything from our lives that could potentially put our wellbeing in jeopardy. Toxic bath and beauty products, be gone. Luckily, a slew of natural, organic, and surprisingly chic replacements have emerged in the last few years, providing a welcome alternative to the Dr. Bronners and patchouli-laden options of yore. Not only are they effective but they look damn good on the countertops of nearly every hotel bathroom. Read on for our top natural beauty picks.

RMS Beauty

These days, everyone seems to be jumping on the natural beauty train. And by everyone, we mean celebrities. So when dabbling in organic products, who would we possibly trust more than the face behind the faces (ahem, Gisele, Milla Jojovich, Miranda Kerr)? Enter Rose Marie Swift, creator of RMS Beauty. After 20 years as an editorial and celebrity makeup artist, Swift experienced some health issues directly linked to her contact with conventional beauty products. Thus, she created RMS Beauty, a line of all-natural, antimicrobial, pigmented pots of coconut oil-based goodness. We’ve recently become obsessed with her Uncoverup, but we absolutely cannot live without the Living Luminizer. A touch of this miracle balm on the tops of your cheekbones is enough to wipe a transatlantic flight, seated next to a baby, right off your face. If you get one product, get this one.

May Lindstrom Skin

One look at the founder and namesake of May Lindstrom Skin, and, trust us, you’ll be sputtering “I’ll have what she’s having.” Seriously – this woman is the ultimate babe in an earthy, low-maintenance supermodel kind of way. Actually, that’s exactly what she is. But lest you think she’s just a pretty face, May has created a line of high-quality, micro-batch products using top-of-the-line organic, bio-dynamic, sustainable ingredients encased in elegant violet glass. We’re huge fans of The Clean Dirt and The Good Stuff (so, so good), but really, the entire brand embodies a sense of luxury and sensuality. If we could bottle that feeling, we totally would. Oh, wait.

In Fiore

In Fiore is one of those brands that can get you in real trouble, because if you try one product, you’ll want to try them all. The brand’s founder, Julie Elliott, opened this modern apothecary in San Francisco after years in the fashion industry in New York. So, right off the bat, we trust her standards. The foundation of her products is handpressed flower and herbal oils, blended into an array of potions so aromatic they will practically transport you to paradise. Unless you’re actually going to paradise, in which case they’re the perfect travel companion. They even offer travel-sized versions of their most vacation-worthy products. Corps Vitale will keep your circulation moving, and a dab of Vis Clair firming eye complex will perk tired eyes right up. The unisex Vetivert Body Balm is nature’s answer to a weary traveler’s aches and pains – especially effective when massaged in by someone else. Once you've adapted to relaxation and you're ready to head out into the elements, Soleil Fleur is your pre-sun protectant. Add a dab of the anti-inflammatory Lucense serum, then seal it all in with the decadently moisturizing Fleur Vibrant. At least this addiction is healthy.

Beautycounter

You may have heard of Beautycounter through the grapevine, which would make sense, because that’s basically the premise of the brand. Remember Mary Kay? Well, take that concept and eliminate chemicals, pantsuits, and pink Cadillacs (sad face). Add coconut oil-based natural ingredients, flattering hues, and chic packaging, and you have Beautycounter. In short, Beautycounter offers effective, good-for-you products, from the hair to the face to the body to a colorful range of lip sheers that are literally safe enough to eat (take that, five pounds of lipstick we ingest every year). We love a spritz of the Rosewater Uplifting Spray followed by the jasmine Lustro Face Oil 2. But the best part? You can make a buck just by showing your friends how healthy and beautiful you are. What’s not to love about that?

Tata Harper Skincare

Perhaps the best known of the natural beauty bunch is Tata Harper, and her popularity is well-deserved. Her products are manufactured in small batches in Vermont, and while the ingredients are about as natural as you can get, they're equally as effective. The Resurfacing Mask is a major favorite, considering that dullness is pretty much a guarantee in a cabin of recirculated air. In the case of layovers, lost luggage, and unpleasant plane neighbors, the Aromatic Stress Treatment is a must. And if you're feeling really washed up, the Elixir Vitae is like Botox without the needles. It relaxes wrinkles and brings an almost immediate plumpness to the skin. At $365 it ain't cheap, but hey, youth is priceless. We also love the fact that the brand employs sustainable practices like renewable energy and recycled packaging materials. After all, beauty is in the details.
